Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Depends on my plans. I find the Disney transportation just fine for getting around to the parks and Downtown Disney. For other things, it's nice to have a car. For instance, this year I'm going in December and plan to visit all the Disney resorts to see the decorations and just to look around the ones I have never visited. Disney transportation can be awkward for getting between some of the resorts. So I plan to pick up a car at the airport, drive over to the Dixie Landings (maybe stop at a grocery store along the way) and check in (or at least get my resort ID), then drive around to the other resorts and explore. I'll turn in the car the next day - National Car Rental has a site on WDW property. For the trip back to the airport I may get a car again and make a couple of stops along the way.
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Although Disney transport is excellent, I agree it is difficult to get around to the other resorts. Of course, if you have plans outside WDW, a car is a must. I also find a car helpful in non-peak times when the parks close early. It makes it easier to get around after Disnay Transportation closes.
Have a great trip! šoš

Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Hi! We will be renting a car for our next Disney trip in May. This will be our first time flying with the kids. We got a really good deal for a car thru Dollar, they have a site right on the airport property(so you don't have to catch a shuttle to take you to their office). If you put in code FVG, you will get a really good deal. I have checked every car rental company and used every discount I could find, and no others came close(we even have Magical Kingdom Gold Card, which didn't help much with National). I got the code from a Florida magazine I have. I like the Disney buses for going to the parks, but sometimes we like to go out driving around and see other things. Good Luck with your search.
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
This will be the first year that someone in the family hasn't driven to WDW, so we will be renting a car. We do use a vehicle quite often; to go to other resorts, to DD and to the Crossroads.
My youngest daughter arrives 1st so she is getting the rental. I think she also rented from Dollar. She's great at hunting down the best bargin!
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Thanks a million mbgold I just went to the "Dollar" site and reserved a car we are going with another family and we are renting a minivan so the "promo" code was a great help. Thanks!!! Do we need anything special for the promo code of FVG. I was surprised it was valid for that class of car usually the minivans aren't included. I got a rate of 199.99 per wk unlimited mileage. So again, thanks!!!
mbgold--I'm trying to send you an email and I keep getting an error message that it is an invalid address...help

Nothing special is needed for the Dollar code 'FVG'. It is a code from the Florida Vacation Guide, a tourist publication. Another great code to use for Dollar is 'KISS'.

Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Thanks dsny4me for knowing what magazine that was from. I tore out the ad, now I can't find the magazine! I think I will call and get another one. Colesmom- I hope everything will work out for your rental too. Sorry to have taken so long to get back to your question. I will check my background info, maybe the email address is incorrect. Have fun on your trip!
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
The magazine is Florida Vacation Guide, you can receive one by calling 1-800-7FLA-USA. It will take approximately 2 weeks to receive. Hope this helps someone!
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Thanks so very much to both mbgold and dsny4me. I really appreciate that extra information. I'm saving over $150.00 on the weekly rental of a minivan. So I'm grateful to both of you. Thanks for the phone number also. I was very anxious to get back to work today (go figure) just so I could check the message boards...I was so hoping someone would have any answer. Thank you, thank you thank you!!!
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
The only time we used our rental car was to get from the airport to WDW, and from WDW to the airport. The entire time we were there it sat in the Valet lot. What a waste of $150. Next time we will use a towncar service.
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
Great information ... ;-)
I also found that Alamo has a $199 week special on SUV's, with the rate code 4W needed. We had a midsize then found out about this special and changed to a bigger vehicle and on top of that saved some cash !
Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
We use one of the onsite rental companies at the airport. We will not ride the bus offsite to Hertz or Alamo again just to get in another line!
While at WDW we use the vehicle to get around onsite. We often take a ride over to Largo on the Gulf Coast to visit relatives. We also will visit the Kennedy Space Center, Universal and Sea World. On different trips of course.

Re: Those of you who use rental cars.... Do you..........
I very rarely do NOT get a car when I fly to WDW. We use the car for resort to resort transportation and transportation to DD. We also go off-site for shopping and eating at some of the local restaurants.
