I just called national car rentals for an 8 day rental on a mid size car with AAA and taxes and everything I got a rate of $160.00. When I resereved the car two months ago I was looking at a rate of $280.00. That gives me $120.00 more to spend at WDW. I'm so excited only 51 more days to go!!!! That I would let everyone know what a good rate I got maybe however is renting a car might want to check National out.
I was able to get a $97 rate through National for our January trip. I almost fell over when I was quoted this rate... When I checked out a weeks rate for our (3 days, 13 hours, 16 min to go trip) I was quoted a rate over $200.
Your trip will be here before you know it!

Wow! Those rates are great. Has anyone reserved a mini-van? We would need one for 8 of us. Don't have to have a car though, am looking forward to trying Tiffany. (in spite of bad report this week.

Wow! Great rates! I haven't even checked yet for our trip in January. Did you call National directly? Are these all AAA rates? Isn't there a discount with Disney Club (formerly MKC)? There is also something called Emerald Club - or something like that - with National through Disney Club - does anyone know anything about this?
My rate of $160.00 was a weekly rate for an Intermediate car(Grand Am) with a AAA rate I called National at 1-800-CAR-RENT. With AAA % the car is 139 then with tax it comes to 168. With out AAA % it was 154.65 plus tax.
I'm also picking up the car at WDW and dropping it off a week later at the airport.
I used www.1travel.com. I had to play a little with car sizes, but when I got a rate at National for $114 for a full sized car for a week, I took it immediately. (The rate I had on my own was through Dollar and was $130 for an economy. Needless to say, I cancelled that one right away!)
Then, being the nervous one, I called National at 1-800-CAR-RENT to verify the reservation. Even the agent was impressed with the rate!
I checked back recently, and rates have skyrocketed for the time we're going to be in Disney, so I guess the moral here is to try, try, try!!
My suggestion about car rental - try a travel agent. They get great volume discounts and will do most of the legwork for you while earning their (meager) commission. I got an agent rate and then checked all the various on=line and telephone discount plans I could and the agent rate was better for our March trip (if only slightly).
Minniesota mouse I used my Dc card to join
the emerald club at National,(they wave the
$50 fee because of the Dc card). Then I called National thru the Emarald club and my
price for a full size car in July went from
$199 for the week to $133.54 including taxes
and all fees! So the Disney card already
well payed for itself!

May your dreams always come true!
Thanks Buzz for the info! I have purchased The Disney Club card so I will definately check this out.
I have been very happy with the benefits offered. I have already more than paid for the card! I received a 10% discount on a AAA membership (which I was going to do anyway), bought Park Hopper Passes & got $10 off each, got 10% off tickets to Beauty & The Beast Broadway Show (which I went to Friday night -it was AWESOME ) & also get The Disney Magazine subscription.
You also get the collectable inaugural pin and the cute card (Snow White & the 7 dwarfs)the CM's at The Disney Store where I bought my passes were real impressed with this. It was the first one they had seen!
