Brita water botles and airport security

I'm thinking that going through the x-ray machine the Brita water bottles look like a cylinder with a smaller cylinder inside.
I've had a similar item go through security in my carry on. It was a percussion instrument - cylinder shaped with little beads inside. It caused quite a stir, with them having to open my bag and search through it - very cautiously, I might add!
Anyway, what have others experienced? Have you packed them in your carry-on luggage or checked bag?
I guess if they were going to go through my bags, I'd rather have them do it in front of me.

Anyone care to share their experience?

i have the water bottles as well but i am driving so I suppose I can't be of much help.......why not have them handy like on top of suitcase so if they have to go thru it they won;t tear thru it....

Ours have gone thru in my checked luggage without any problems. Interesting question, though.

Is the instrument you have made of metal? Or have metal components? Even solid wood looks suspicious upon x-ray.

Re: Brita water botles and airport security

I always pack my Brita bottle in my checked bag, because I have too much other junk to carry on with me. But I've flown to WDW 3 times since 9/11 and never had any indication that the bottle was thought of as suspicious.

Same here, we checked them through and there was no problem. I even had an extra filter in my carryon that I picked up the day before and didn't put with the water bottles till after we got there. We breezed right through.

Re: Brita water botles and airport security

The airports have gotten savvy with these sorts of things. As the government regulated security people have become more experienced, they start to notice these things as normal. I don't think you will have any problems at all.

Thanks for the replies. It's getting so exciting now that we're beginning to pack!

I have one whole suitcase filled with individual boxes of cereal, poptarts and snacks for the parks!
