| I am leaving for WDW tomorrow on a delta flight and I still can't find a straight answer on whether or not my DD can take her Ipod on the airplane. She really wants to take it, but I do not want them to confiscate a $200.00 Ipod. I called Delta and the reservation woman said she could take it, but I need some reassurance. Please Please let me know if you have flown lately and know the rules. P.S. I have searched all the Airline safety websites and none of them have a straightforward answer on Ipods.

| My DD's took their shuffles last May on a Spirit flight with no problem. You just have to wait until they say you can play it... I think it's when the seatbelt sign is turned off. Good luck... have a magical trip to the World! |

| I work for an airline and YES, you can take your iPod. If your daughter has it out and visible before takeoff/landing, they will ask to make sure it is turned off. Once they reach a certain altitude, they will make an announcement that is now "OK to use approved electronic devices" and she can then turn it on. Rest assured, it will not be confiscated

| Yep -- I've been on 10 flights in the last 16 days -- and have carried the iPod and used it a lot - you can't use it during take off and landing, but it is fine the rest of the time.

| short of take off and landing, electronics can be used as a general rule except for anything that has a transmitter. so for example, a laptop can be used, but if it has wifi, that has to be turned off because it's constantly trying to transmit information. some cell phones have airplane modes now which means all other aspects of the phone will work except the actual cellular bit, but because of confusion, i probably wouldn't try it. same with blackberries, they can be used more easily, as long as the wireless is turned off.

| I second, third, and fourth the concensus; Ipods, and other forms of musical entertainment that still exist [grin] are fine during flight. My cell phone has the "airplane mode" -- you just have to make certain your phone starts up in that mode so you don't have the cell signal during flight.

| Now does this hold true for iPods you can watch DVDs on, too? I mean, not just the ones for music?

| Video iPods are no problem either. Bring one every time. Just as a side note, even with a transmitting device like a phone, if you were to leave it on/forget to turn it off, it's really no issue at all. In reality no cell phone is going to effect the instruments on the plane. But the FAA can't be in the business of testing every phone when a new one comes out so they just say keep em all off for the whole flight. Same thing with all other non transmitting electronic devices. No issue whatsoever to have say an iPod on during takeoff. Again it's just that the FAA can't possibly test every single new portable device when one comes out so they just have everything off for takeoff and landing and you turn it on after takeoff. I turn mine off cause those are the rules, but sometimes the flight attendants won't even bother saying anything if someone's got an iPod on landing/takeoff.

| Just in case you don't trust any of us (just kidding) here's official information from Delta's webpage: Delta In-flight Information about Portable Electronic Devices And a very interesting article on what they're doing starting this year: Delta Air Lines Synchs Up with Apple to Offer Customers Amplified Entertainment Options at 30,000 Feet
