As long as part of your party is riding the DME bus, they will take your luggage.

also, in regards to how DME handles luggage late at night. normally they'll knock on your door to deliver your luggage. after midnight, the procedure is they will leave a 'silent' voicemail on your phone. your phone will never ring, but your voicemail indicator will light up. the message will tell you that they have your bags and you can call at any time throughout the night to have them delivered right then. otherwise automatic delivery resumes at 8 am.

so there's no real extra step for this except to watch your phone.
Which would seem to mean, you can give them a call, and have it all delivered when you wake up the next morning, even if it's 5am or 6am, and have your things for the first day.

Still, it's probably best to have all your "Day 1" things in carry-on, if possible . JUST to be extra-certain.

We were trying to remember last night--do you have to put your carry-on in the under-bus storage or do you take it on the bus?

carryon can go on the bus with you, but use common sense on that one. my laptop/camera and even backpack go on the bus with me, but my 'suitcase' which i technically think could be a carryon would go under the bus. there is some overhead storage on the bus too, but not too much.

Thanks for the Clear layout of it!

After 3 trips using it we'd probably be able to do it with our Eyes clothes but the first time we used DME it was a bit confusing.

It never took us more than about 1 1/2 hours to get our luggage when we arrived.

Bigger Bags (ones that you would check with your airline) or larger carry-on's would go under the bus but if you can fit it in the seat with you its ok for the bus. (At least that was the case with us)

I had one bag that was fairly small, which I was afraid that they would make me store underneath with the bigger bags and would be crushed, that I was allowed to take on.

I guess its just a matter of Judgement-- I mean You're not going to take your Checked Luggage on the bus.

Since I traveled by myself on my last trip and used DME I can tell you how I made it easy. But I did the usual thing and went to look for my luggage at the carousel then remembered that it was getting picked up for me.

I packed very light because I knew I was going to be picking up t-shirts and such. So when I got to Pop Century, I stopped by the gift shop and grabbed a t-shirt or two & shorts. Changed and went to DTD to World of Disney to get more clothes for the trip. By the time I got done with that shopping trip & returned to my room, my luggage was there waiting for me.

Love the experience of using DME.

We got our travel docs yesterday including the DME paperwork. Can you guys clarify something for me, please?

We're flying with Southwest. I think I understand that we'll be able to use DME like normal on the way down to Orlando. The only difference with Southwest, as far as I understand, is that we won't be able to check our bags straight from the resort to the home airport. Instead, we'll check the bags at MCO ourselves once we arrive there on DME.

My husband read the DME booklet that came in our packet, and he thinks it says that we won't be able to use the luggage pick-up arrangement on the front end either. His interpretation is that we'll pick up our own baggage when we arrive in Orlando, and that the only part of DME we'll use is the shuttle to and from WDW and the delivery of our luggage to our room.

Does anyone know exactly how DME works with Southwest? I really think I'm right but it would help to have back-up from the experts!

DME WILL pick up your luggage when you arrive. Just attach the yellow DME tags, and "forget about it".

we flew southwest in Feb. just use the luggage tags like normal for arrival. But going back since southwest is not part of the program. Just have your luggage ready when you board the bus to go to the airport. They will drop you and your luggage, and you can check in your luggage at the outside check in. No Problem, be happy.

I have 2 questions... this is kind of a long one!! We are flying Southwest in June. My DH is leaving the day before us b/c he actually has to work (we're tagging along on his business trip). I'm sending him down w/ all the luggage. We received our DME booklet a few days ago and it says to take the book with you... we're traveling different days!! Would it be ok for my DH to take his voucher out of the booklet and go? They are all dated with the correct information.

My second question is about our return trip. We actually used DME the month before it officially started. We went down in April of 05 and had the whole experience except the luggage transfer part. On our way home we barely made it to the airport (think Home Alone... running through the airport w/ a 3 yr old and an infant.) How accurate are they with getting you to the airport for your trip home? Southwest says you need to have your bags checked in 45 minutes before you departure... we missed this last time and had to have our bags delivered home.

They have you leave for the airport 3 hours before the flight, As far as arrivial, I don't think there is a problem with removong the voucher. But I think I would confirm with Disney.

I have another question. We are leaving at 8:30 am to go home so will they have you leave at 5:30am then for the airport? I know we will have to check in at the airport and check in our luggage since we are flying Frontier.

Could be I don't really know, we returned at 8:15 p.m. flight and they picked us up about 5 something. but your leaving very early in the morning. you may not have to leave as early. Since there may not be that may people leaving for the airport early in the morning. They still needed to pick up people from another resort after us, before going to the airport.
