Surcharge??

this morning on the news the ticker at the bottom of the screen was saying that some airline were adding a $20 fuel surcharge??? Does anyone have details on this? I have already booked my flights, I am hoping that doesn't mean to flights already booked??

If your flights are booked, take advantage of having the lower cost. I booked our August flights a while back and the pricing has gone up ever since.

Every airline will be doing that soon. And charging for a second bag. And increasing surcharge for overweight bags. Welcome to the new world

If you have paid for your flight, you will not have to pay the surcharge.

If you booked a package that included the flight and you have not paid it off, you will probably end up paying the surcharge.

When we went to WDW in 2000, I booked the entire package with AAA. Between the time I booked the package and paid it off 3 months later, the airlines added a surcharge. We were responsible for paying the surcharge.

I just booked a flight this morning and another one (for DH) tonight with Delta and wasn't charged a fuel surcharge that I could see anywhere.

Hoping they aren't going to spring that extra $60 for the 3 tickets on me when we check in for our flights.

I would guess most airlines will go down the same path - that's what seemed to happen with the charges for the second bag.

Most state consumer protection laws prohibit adding surcharges after a travel reseration has been made (whether it has been paid, or not). It's also normally required that all existing extra charges, taxes, etc. be divulged before completing the sale. A travel reservation is a contract, with an agreed-to price. Anything else is bait-and-switch.

Recently, one of the cruise lines (not Disney) tried to increase the existing fuel surcharge on guests who had already booked, and the Florida attorney general jumped on the cruise line with both feet.

whew! That's good to know, Dave as I have two tickets for four flights bought and paid for. That could have been painful!
I debated buying the December flight...but was concerned and decided to take the step......glad I did!
