| Bag Policies for all Airlines--condensed Here are the checked baggage policies for the major carriers: I hope this helps everybody Airtran: 1 free checked bag, $10 for additional bag with online checkin, $20 for additional bag at airport American: Purchase before June 15 1 free bag, $25 for second bag. Purchase after June 15 $15 for first bag, $25 for second bag. (each way) Exceptions: First, business and full fare economy tickets, AA Executive Platinum, Platinum and Gold travelers Continental: Economy travelers 1 free bag, $25 for second bag Delta: 1 free bag, $25 for second bag, $80 for bags three, four, and five and so on up. Frontier: 1 free bag, $25 for second bag Northwest: 1 free bag, $25 for second bag, $100 for third bag. First class three free bags. Exceptions: Northwest and Sky Team Elite members, full price economy fares, government and military fares. Southwest: 2 free bags, $25 for third bag United: 1 bag free, $25 for second bag. Exceptions: Premier, Premier Associate, Silver and Gold Star Alliance, all First/Business Class tickets and awards, military personnel traveling on orders. US Air: 1 bag free, 2nd bag $25, 3-9 $100. | No problem--I was confused so I sat down and looked at all of them--wrote it out and decided it would be silly not to share it! I fly lots of different airlines--whoever has the best price--but the bag policy changes the cost of flying with each airlline so I needed it in front of me when I was looking at tickets for my next flight!

| Also on American if you are flying on a mileage ticket your first bag is free. I'm still sticking with Southwest though!!

| Just FYI AK air's baggage fees are Effective July 1, 2008: Passengers may check their first bag free of charge. A second bag may be checked for $25. Each bag can be a maximum of 62 linear inches (length + width + height) and may weigh up to 50 pounds. Additional fees apply if there are 3 or more bags being checked, or if the bags are overweight or oversized. Passengers traveling prior to July 1, 2008, or who purchased their tickets prior to May 1, 2008, may check 2 bags free of charge. Detailed information regarding additional fees for excess, overweight, and oversize baggage may be found in the

| United has changed their policy. I received an email from them stating: If you are traveling on or after August 18, 2008 on an Economy ticket or Economy award ticket purchased on or after June 13, 2008, a $15 service fee will apply for your first checked bag. Also, as previously announced, a $25 fee will apply for a second checked bag, depending on when you purchased your ticket and when you are traveling. . Checked baggage fees summary If you purchased your tickets…and are traveling…then the following fees will apply to check bags: Purchased:Before February 4, 2008 ;Traveling Anytime: First bag: $0 Second:$0 Purchased Beween 2/4/08 and 6/12/08; traveling Anytime: First bag: $0 Second:$25 Purchased 6/13/08 or later, Travelingbetween 6/13/08 and 8/17/08 First bag: $0 Second: $25 PucrhcasedOn or after 6/13/08, Travel on or after 8/18/08 First: $15 Second$25 Baggage fee exceptions You are exempt from the above fees for checking your first two bags if you are:
