What's the first think you know.....

old Jed's a millionaire.

This was a line my Father always said when we packed for the family road trip and now I feel the same way. (In reference to how the Clampets car looks in the opening of the Beverly Hillbillies)

We are going for a 14 day vacation (9 at WDW and the rest on the road at multiple stops) but I feel like the stuff I want to pack will last us for months and wonder how the heck I am going to fit it all in the car ('04 Camry)

I always pack the suitcase by the put everything I need in a pile and cut it in half and I plan on doing at least one load of lights and one of darks on the trip but it's all the other "stuff" Stroller, Beach towels (a stop at a beach and the need to have my 5ft plus length towels to wrap my short squatty body make hotel pool towels an issue for me) Food (I know I can pick more up on the road) Road trip fun stuff for dd 4.5

DH is going to flip when he sees all the "stuff"

Does anyone else feel like they over pack when they take road trips?

When we drove to WDW in January, I thought we might get pulled over for obstructed view, lol. I don't know how in the world I got all the stuff in the suv.
We had a large cooler, 5 suitcases, 2 clothes baskets full of food and other stuff, all the kids travel stuff, an airmattress and pump, and who knows what else.

I always over pack on road trips. Once we get there I always ask myself why I needed all this stuff.

We, too, look like the Clampetts whenever we take a road trip. It's become a joke with us

DW *TRIES* to overpack, but I find a way to get our luggage down to a manageable size.

Anywhere we go DH allows us one suitcase per person no matter how long the trip! We also only have one back pack each - just like packing for a plane trip really.

For me - I have really cut down on how much I pack. Since I to swim, I pack basic outfits that mix and match so I can do laundry while at the pool. I truly just got tired of lugging the biggest suitcase around.

For my Dgang - forget it! Because DD Lucy lives in Orlando, we're always dragging boxes of stuff down to her. And with DS#1 Luke there this year, our last trip was packed to the walls in our mini-van! We took stuff down - we brought stuff back. That's when I realized, our August trip (brining him home) is going to be so much packing fun!

I remember taking road trips w/ my family to Louisiana to see our family (we live in VA) it was an 18 hour drive, we always looked like the Clampetts! LOL Of course, mom mom was forever taking things down for her sisters, so you really never knew what would be stowed under your legs, crockpot, cowboy boots, kind of funny really. I say, if you can fit it in there, take it!

Fortunately I'm a lot better than I used to be, but I think we probably all overpack on all trips, if we're honest.

We've had road trips "back home" at Christmas time where you couldn't see out the back windows of our mini-van and the back bench seat was removed, and I've had to either sit cross-legged or with my legs up on the front dash because there's too much stuff in the place my legs are supposed to go. 9 hours like that is not comfy!

DH & I are going on a road trip this fall and he wants to bring our golf clubs and his bicycle. Plus the luggage for 5 weeks which will include summer-like weather in Florida at the beginning of the trip and possibly freezing or at least near-freezing temperatures around the Great Lakes and Minneapolis at the end of the trip. I will be doing laundry whenever I get the chance to, but still -- we're going to need everything from swimsuits to wool coats and mittens, so I see a lot of suitcases in our future.... Where the heck is that bike gonna fit? I think we'll have to tie it to the roof with Granny's rocking chair.....
