AirTran and Stoller

Does AirTran charge you for a stoller, or does it count as a one piece of checked luggage? How much do they charge? I'm trying to decide if I should buy a double stroller or just rent one.
Thanks

We gate checked both our strollers when we used AirTran. It didn't count towards luggage. They actually came out unharmed & undamaged!

Good luck!

Gate checked strollers do not count as part of your luggage and there is no charge for the service. We gate check our stroller every vacation.

Stroller rental at WDW is $15 a day for a single stroller and $31 a day for a double stroller.

Thanks guys, I figured that since the airline is charging for EVERYTHING you bring on a plane they would charge for the stroller. I didn't know if it was more cost efficent to buy a double stroller and take it down there (not knowing if the airlines would charge me $50 or some nonsense) or if renting one would be better. I think I'm going to buy one. I'm still concerned about getting it on and off the buses.
I'm glad to know they won't charge if I check it at the gate, I guess that could still change.

I just had this very same question. I sent an e-mail to AirTran corporate and their response was that car seats and strollers checked at the gate do not count toward your checked baggage total. Therefore, you will not have to pay anything extra. I think that's a huge relief! Now, we can just take our own instead of paying that unbelievable fee increase at the parks!

I emailed Air Tran b/f booking our flights (I did this with several air lines as we are travelling with a double stroller and 2 car seats) and they answer I received was the same as stated here - if you gate check them, there is no extra charge and they do not count towards your luggage count. However if you choose to put them with checked luggage the same fees as extra baggage will be incurred. These are all listed on their website based on size and weight.

I've always gate-checked my strollers and had no charge. It's really convenient, too. You push your little one(s) right up the gangway to the door of the plane and they take it there for you. Then when you disembark, it's waiting at the door of the plane for you. I have a sit-and-stand stroller that I've brought with me before and am planning to bring again. It's great when you have a younger one and one who is a little (or a lot) older. The "sit" part is in the front of the stroller (like a traditional stroller) and the "stand" part is in the rear and the child can either sit, buckled in, facing you, or stand, again with a rear buckle/strap, facing forward. I remember coming back late on night from the parks and I had four kids sitting or standing on that stroller!
