| Airline items I haven't flown in over 4 years & I wanted to make sure of what items we can take along. U can only have 1 quart size zipper bag with 3 oz containers. So, I can put shampoo & conditioner in a 3oz bottle & place in the bag, correct? Can I put in a small toothpaste tube? What about children's meds? If I were to bring children's tylenol, motrin, benadryl along in my carry-on for the kids is that allowed or do I need to place them in a 3 oz bottle too or can they just go in the carry-on in their original boxes? What about snacks - raisins, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc. Are these allowed? TIA |

| Each person gets one 1 quart bag. Yes toothpaste is allowed as long as it's 3oz or less and is in the 1 quart bag. Yes you can bring food with you in fact you should since most airlines either don't provide meals/snacks or charge you for them. Foods such as peanut butter (not recomended because of allergies), jam/jelly etc. are considered liquids so are subject to the 3oz. rule. You can buy drinks once you're past security to bring on the plane with you if you want. You can also bring bring empty water bottles with you to fill up once you're past security. Check with your airline to see what they do and don't provide and how much if anything they charge for it. As for medications (prescription and over the counter) I'm not positive but I think you can bring more than 3oz on as long as you have it bagged seperately from the other items and declare/show it to security. |

| You can have one quart sized ziploc bag for each person and the items can't be smushed in. The bag has to be taken out of your carry on when you go through security and placed in a bin. As far as gels and liquids go, as long as they are in a 3 ounce or smaller bottle/container and put in your quart size bag, you will be fine. Whether you pour shampoo into one of those 3 ounce travel bottles or you use one of the trial size bottles, it doesn't matter . . . just as long as it is 3 ounces or less. Trial size toothpastes count towards that as well. ![]() As far as Tylenol and such . . . I believe you can bring it (and it doesn't have to be in a bag) as long as you "declare" it at security (I would probably put it in a gallon size ziploc and take it out with my other ziploc bag, if it were me. There are no restrictions on snack things unless they are gels or liquids (applesauce, peanut butter and jelly . . . things like that). Here's a link to the TSA website that talks about the 3-1-1 rule.

| You don't have to put things in to a ziploc of any size if it's going in your checked luggage. That said I think everyone here would recomend that you place any liquids that are going in you luggage be placed in a sealed ziploc bag in case of leaks. Nothing like getting to the hotel and opening a suitcase full of clothing and shoes that smell of Chanell No. 5 or are covered in shampoo/conditioner/lotion etc. to get your vacation off to a less than pleasant start. |

| Personally I put anything I wouldn't want on my clothes and shoes in a sealed ziploc including my solid antiperspirant/deodorant as there is no telling how gently or how roughly your bag is going to be treated and while soft sided luggage is wonderfully lightweight it's also not nearly as protective as the old heavy hardsided luggage was. Somehow I don't think todays softsided luggage would handle the beating that the Samsonite(?) American Tourister(?) gorilla dished many years ago now. |

![]() So now, just to be safe, I seal it all up so I don't have to have a repeat performance of the lotion shoes. ![]()

| The TSA has lots of good info: TSA | Transportation Security Administration | U.S. Department of Homeland Security Specifically this page on carry-on limitations and how to have them available for checking: TSA | Transportation Security Administration | 3-1-1 on Air Travel ![]() They also have good info on what to do with liquid medicines or medicines that need to be kept cold with ice packs. (TSA: Travelers with Disabilities and Medical Conditions) I'd also advise that people pack their checked-luggage so that liquid items are bagged (and even double-bagged) in case of an in-flight leak.
