Disney Mail and DME ?

So on Thursday we got Disney mail! I was so excited. It was all of our DME stuff.

My husband wants us to check our luggage without putting the DME tags on it and then once we land get our luggage and give it to DME. I'm assuming this is okay? Bascially a friend of his does DME all the time and recommened it becauase AAA told him that is the best way to do it. Apparently some airlines have said we gave it to disney and disney said no they didn't and I guess it goes on from there. So anyway that is our plan. Anyone else do this? I personally think DH has issues but hey at least he is getting involved in the trip planning

you don't have to use the luggage delivery service, but the luggage is infinitely safer in disney's hands than it is in the airlines.

you won't give it to DME if you spend the time to claim them either. you'll take them to the bus where the driver will load them under the bus for you. you'll then wait for the driver to pull them out for you when you get to your resort and bring them into the hotel and to your room yourself (unless you engage bell services in the process, assuming you aren't staying at a value)

About the DME luggage, well, we put our tags on before we went to the airport. That way we didn't forget. Once at MCO it was so nice to just walk off the plane and ride back to terminal to catch our DME without thinking about luggage, and even though we were warned that luggage would take hours to arrive, it came in about one hour!! we had gotten checked in and situated, then went down and got our mugs, and filled them, checked out the pool, then poof, bags were in! They brought them right to the room and it was great. We saw other people who decided to lug their own stuff, but it was a big hassle and held up the bus!! I recomend using the tags and letting Disney get your bags.

I'm with your husband. While we had a good DME experience, it still took hours to get our luggage. I'm the sort that likes to get in and unpack / nest right away. So it was tough for me because our luggage didn't arrive until after we had to leave the room for the Pirate and Princess Party. Fortunately I had planned for that, but it still was no fun (for me) to get in after midnight and still not be unpacked / nested in. LOL!

thanks for the advice everyone. I have one other question.

My girls have a different last name. So their airline tickets have their birth last name but our DME have my last name. do you think that is a problem?

i probably would have gone ahead and put their correct names on the disney reservation to start with, but i can't imagine it'd be an issue. you should call DME directly and verify.

NO it won't matter, they hardly even look at the DME certificate when we boarded! And they did not look at each one, just counted how many people!

Okay cool. Thanks for the advice. I actually didn't even realize their names were listed with my last night until I got the DME. I think they just asked for their first names and assumed. Oh well
