Question I'm getting stressed about airfare!

Oh I just can't make a decision about airfare!!! I want to jump on a flight that is at $240 but the rest of the family thinks we should go on an overnight flight that is $330. There are 15 of us flying from Portland, OR - I don't think we have to take the same flight but DH and DBIL both do! Do I wait for 90 days out (Sept 5th) and hope the $330 one goes down, or just buy the airfare and say too bad - this is what my family has to do?! The anquish of this decision is keeping me up at night. I even called the airlines to see if we could get a group discount but they wouldn't budge. I have 7 people in my family and I just can't do the $330. What would you guys do?

I think you're a bit stuck if the rest of the family want to the $330 flight. Personally I'd go for the cheaper one.

What airline are you looking at? Some will give you a credit if the price goes down (although you have to check because some charge you a change fee to get the credit).

The $240 one is with United and the $330 one is with Continental.

I would take the cheaper flight. You will all meet up sooner or later. You need to do what you need to do for your family.

I'm not sure either of those airlines gives credits without a change fee so if that's the case I'd go for the cheaper flight and book it now. Especially since you need 7 tickets--you want to grab them now while you can get 7 at a price you can live with.

In an ideal world I'm sure it'd be nice to all fly down together, but since $$$ is a factor you need to do what's best for your immediate family.

Good luck!

I'd also go for the cheaper flight.

Did you also check Alaska Airlines? We are also flying from Portland, OR to Orlando leaving on Friday (Aug 29) and they were the cheapest from Portland when I booked in April. Our flight was $249.50. Using a $50 companion coupon my daughter and I are flying for a total of $334.74. We have flown from Portland to Orlando twice before and have had good trips with them. We are on the red eye flight leaving at approx. 8:30 pm and arrive in Orlando at 7:25 am (with a one hour lay over in Seattle). We were originally booked on a flight from Portland to Orlando with no lay overs but they cancelled that flight in July.

Good luck with your decision.

I'd also book the cheaper flight. It works for your family, saves you money, and I also don't see a reason that everyone has to fly together. You'll all end up in the same place in the end.

Dang I wish I could get that deal! Last year we flew Alaska on basically the same flight you are on in Sept and it was perfect. The red-eye is sold out and the cheapest fare is $560.00 pp. I can't figure Alaska out right now. They are by far the most expensive!

By the time I made my decision to just book the cheaper flight on United it went up to $300 pp. I guess I am just going to wait for the 90 day mark and hope for the best.

Wait a day & check it again... check in the Evening. Prices fluctuate alot for some reason. I was looking to book a flight to VA. with Delta. It had been running at $200 then when I went to book it ... it had jumpped up to $250. So I waitetd a aday or two it went back to finally book it at the $250 and it had dropped down to $150. THere seems to be certain days or times that happens. But you never know when

I say do the cheaper one. The rest of the family can do whatever works for them. You have to do what's best for you. And your DH will have to understand that - especially with regard to the finances. Good luck!!
