Angry Southwest is now cutting flights too!

Southwest is cutting flights beginning January. I read it here:

That will not be good for us as the best rates in our area have been with SW.

Based on what I've read, this may be a temporary measure during a "slower" time of year for SW, and the flights could be added back later in 2009. I'm optimistic that will be the case.

One piece of good news: SW is adding a round trip from Baltimore to MCO

I just read that. It did say they may resume some flights later after the slow winter season. And at least they are doing it before people have purchased tickets on those flights.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully these cuts were made before the schedule was released vs. what the other airlines have been doing--cutting flights that people already bought tickets for.

One thing I LOVE about SW - they DROP the flight BEFORE they let people book seats on it!!!!! So if they offer the flight they fly it! (or so they have up till now!) You may have to wait for them to release dates, but at least you know once they release your date, whatever they have available is what they will be flying.

It's not like they haven't done this before. They often tweek their schedule and drop or move flights around, but always before they open them up to the public. They haven't dropped out of any airports at this point, just the number of flights they're running, right? That's good news.

I watch the "ding" fares every day and I haven't seen a single one from where I live to Orlando in a long time. They must have cut back on flights from here too, because gone are the $89 one way flights. :-(

I noticed last week when we booked our flights for February that there were fewer overall flights between New Orleans and Orlando. That leads me to think that the flights were cut prior to them releasing their schedules.

Where we live you only have two choices really, either SW or Delta that give several daily flight options. I hate to see SW cut back on their flights to anywhere from here. At least they didn't take away our SDF-MCO flights this time, but several years ago we use to have six daily flights and now we are down to three!

I watch the Ding fares and got a $67 flight from New Orleans to Orlando just the other day. Hopefully its just a season thing and they will resume there regular schedule.
