Flight check-in to bring Birth Cert or not??

Okay my DH is driving me up a wall with this. He thinks we have to bring each child BC. I called AirTran and checked the FAA site and they both said any child under 18 does not need it. What do you do?

I have a feeling I will be brining 5 forms of identification for everyone!!

Thanks

We just flew with them last week and they asked for no identification for my children who are 17, 14, 13 and 9 on either flight. They never have and we fly with them regularly. Good luck, have a great trip!!

You won't need them If you are bringing a lap baby (under 2), you might want to bring one just in case in the event they question the baby's age, but otherwise you should be fine

To bring then when there's no need puts the added pressure of making sure that you do not lose their BCs. It makes no sense, for regular travel, to bring Birth Certificates when they are not needed. If he's really that worried about it, see about getting the kids a state ID card. That way, if there's any question of parentage or age, that card should suffice (since you wouldn't need it for international travel).

I'm pretty sure you only need to bring a birth cert. if the child is under 2 and will be sitting on your lap on the plane otherwise there is no need. If your concerned you could make copies of the BC this way you have them on hand and don't have to worry about losing the originals.

this comes up a lot and the answer is always the following

when flying domestically, children under the age of 18 do not require any form of ID except in certain cases when flying alone.

the only time ID may be required is by the airline when getting a reduced fare for a child under the age of 2

You don't need to bring anything for your children. I just picked up my paperwork from my travel agent. She says and the paperwork I am looking at says that children under age 16 do not need anything. Children age 16 or older need a picture ID. I told my travel agent that I read on some website that my kids needed a birth certificate. She said, " that's wrong. A birth certicate has no picture on it & if you bring it you are just carrying it for nothing". Make sure the adults have picture ID's.

My dd was asked for id at the philadelphia airport once by an older gentleman at the check point. She just stared at him, she was 12 at the time. I told him she was 12 and he looked her over and let her go by. I have no idea what he was thinking?!?!?! She has never been asked since then or before then, I think he was just having a bad day.

Well, this thread helped me a bit since I have a large lap baby. I hadn't thought of bringing a copy of his birth certificate to prove that he's under 2.

Also, I just wanted to say that I love your sig pic, your little guy is too cute!

a child at the age of 16 does not require ID either when flying domestically, unless when flying alone.

under 18, when traveling with an adult, no id.
