| Isn't I-95 always under construction?? We usually take the Auto Train out of Virginia but thanks to Hurricane Faye last year we had to drive. I don't remember any stretches that were under construction (which I thought odd) but that doesn't mean there isn't something somewhere this year.

| Having drove last week from CT to Washington DC and back on I-95 and the Jersey Turnpike, the only issue I really had was north of Baltimore, where there is ongoing construction with the widening of the road. Wasn't too bad though!

We drove from MA to FL last week and hit a good amount of construction just before the FL border in GA. It was about a 90 minute delay for us through there - night construction. We didn't have anything else other than those spots though.

| We drove from NC to Tampa last week and there is a lot of construction from south GA into FL; however this did not slow us down much. Speed limit goes from 70 before construction to 60 in the construction area. Traffic was flowing smoothly. |

| I'm from NJ as well and will be making the same drive in Sept, starting on a Friday afternoon (getting about 8 hours in before stopping hopefully) and doing the drive home on a Wed. Are you driving straight through or stopping overnight somewhere? |

| In VA, they are doing construction on 95 (north and south) right after the Springfield Mixing bowl (they are building HOT Lanes). If you are heading south, you will hit a traffic jam every weekday (before rush hour) until they open the HOV southbound (around 12:30 PM or so) then there is the regular rush hour traffic jam in the afternoon/evening when HOV restrictions kick in (unless you have 3 or more people in the car). |

| Try this site: The I-95 Exit Guide | Travelers Alert Road and Bridge Construction Also each state has a Department of Transportation site that will give you details about contruction projects. If you are unfamiliar with the parking lot that is 95 in the D.C. area, let me suggest you avoid the hours of 6:00 am - 9:30 am and 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the D.C. vicinity. Horrible, horrible traffic coming down from Baltimore and even going south until you get past Alexandria/Fairfax County. Baltimore can be pretty messy as well during the same hours, although they tend to clear out sooner. We also ran into what looked like long-term improvements in GA in December 08, so they are probably still going on. Some construction south of Jacksonville, FL as well held us up slightly. I would check online a couple of days before you are ready to leave. Take a good exit guide (we like Drive 1-95, available online and in bookstores) so you can get off if need be. Just to add fun to everyone's trips, the state of VA is closing 19 rest stops to save money; they expect you to use McDonald's instead. This includes the ones in Dale City (Prince William County, where I live), meaning south of D.C., you will have to make it to Fredericksburg, VA to hit a potty. Good luck and welcome to the Old Dominion. Hope you have a strong bladder!

| We hit construction driving down around GA/FL border as well and it was about a 30 minute delay....I cannot believe that contruction there at the border is still going on! I hope its not going on at the end of september because we cannot afford a huge delay because we are driving straight through..its an 8 hour drive...i dont want it to last much longer

| It's usually worst on weekdays as thousands of communters head toward D.C., some from 70 or more miles away. If there is an accident 5 miles away on the interstate, I know I will be late for work because of the traffic backup all the way down the road I have to cross to get to my workplace. This weekend my friend's husband & daughter were very late to an event we were all attending because they were stuck on 95 heading north from Richmond. So jams can happen at any time, because of accidents, repairs, "important" government officials heading somewhere, or for no apparent reason at all. Many times I've bailed out on a Saturday and navigated the back roads rather than stay on 95--although I wouldn't advise this to someone who is unfamiliar with the area!
