Roll of Quarters ?

Hi we are going to Disney in 13 days and we are taking a flight down. We normally take a train or we drive. My question is can I take some rolls of quarters on the plane for our laundry ? Thanks -Denise

Yes, you should have no problems. If you want to be on the safe side, put the rolls of quarters in one of the plastic bins, so the TSA agents have an easy time of seeing what they are.

I agree with Dave. Put the roll in the bin. I've been stopped twice for a roll of pennies. They said it looked like a weapon.

If you're carrying the rolls through security and not putting them in a checked bag, you should take the rolls out of your bag and place them in the plastic bin. If you don't, you will be delayed as they go through your bag. I forgot once and had my bag completely taken apart by security. It was a pain to put everything back in the bag when they were done.

I always put ours in the bin. Otherwise, the times we've left them in the carry on bag, they've always had to do a search of it!!

On our very first trip in 2002 when my dd was 7 her carryon got searched. She was kinda scared and couldn't figure out the problem until they pulled out the change purse full of quarters and pennies for the penny machines. Since then we have been taking them out.

Oh your poor daughter I could imagine how she felt being so young and having that happen. It happened to me years ago I was pulled aside and I was like WHAT ! I don't have any thing ! We found out that my shoes have a metal rod in the middle ! I did'nt know this.

Not to thread-jack, but we flew in January 2002, just months after 9/11. Things were still pretty intense at the airports. It was also pre-all shoes off and in a bin days. My oldest DS wore a pair of cargo-type pants with about 20 metal zippers and a pair of boots with metal rods in the soles. My youngest DS had an old cell phone in his pocket (I didn't know this). I had rolls of quarters and pennies in my carry-on, shoes with metal rods. We were all pulled aside. We were all wanded, shoes re-screened, bags searched. Good thing we got there really early. My mom was the only one not searched. Needless to say, before we left the resort for the return, I made sure the boys were wearing the proper shoes, pants, etc. I searched pockets and bags. I didn't want to go through that again.

Now I almost dump my bags in the bin. I don't want to go through that again.

You have great advice!

You reminded me of one trip to DL. DS#2 Chat was stopped by the TSA agents and pulled aside. They were checking his backpack. Little did I know, he had dumped his loose coin in and put his roll of coins in a small box. They were highly concerned about that box! It's always an adventure with Chat!

I forgot to take my roll of quarters out and we couldn't figure out what it was when I went through security. The security guy was laughing at me since it looked like some type of bullet cartridge and he couldn't understand why I was flying with a roll of quarters.

We just went in April/May, we brought ours in our carryon, and like others said, just put them in the plastic bin to go through the scanner. It's easier if you have all that stuff in a gallon sized ziploc ahead - pressed penny books, pin lanyards, etc - because they will stop and search those too.

I had two rolls of quarters in my pocketbook and didn't think to take them out and I was never questioned.
