Question southwest and kid ticket

This will be our fist time to fly southwest. We have always flown Delta. Our window will open Oct. to book for March, My question is we will have a 7 year old and a 7 mon. old. Do you call for children? Someone told me if I call that you do,t get as good of prices. Is that true? In need of guidence Thanks Kay

I have never bothered to buy a kids' price ticket on Southwest. : The regular ticket prices (especially the web prices) have always been cheaper than the children's fares, that I have found anyway.

I purchased my 7yr old son's ticket online at the adult rate also. I figured the Wanna Get Away promo was pretty rock bottom with the exception of a Ding! Fare. I was able to snag $150pp round trip out of Detroit. My parents just booked the same flights tonight and unfortunately the price had gone up to $200pp

For the 7-year-old, the "adult" price online is probably the best you can do.

However, for the 7-month-old, there may be an infant fare available if you call. I don't remember if Southwest has one, but I know many airlines give a discount for kids under 2 to encourage parents to buy them seats. As long as the flight isn't close to full, you could book everyone else online then call about the baby (or vice versa) to take advantage of online fares.

Happy planning,
Melissa

They do have an infant fare (or they used to) but it is usually much more expensive than the standard adult fare. I'd just buy the adult ticket for the baby!

I took my Dd on two SW flights when she was 2 and 3. I called about the childs fare and it was $256.
I got our Ding fare for $45 each. So I always just buy the same fare for the both
of us.

The "infant fares" they offer are 50% off the full ticket price so the "Wanna Get Away" or 'Ding" fares are always cheaper.
