Crazy Airline Prices

I'd really like to know why airline prices (at least for Continental) change every single day. I've already purchased our tickets for next August because one day the round trip flight was listed as $218 from Newark to Orlando but I still look everyday at the website. It jumps up to $234 then $228 then $258 then $228 then $278 and so on and so on. This is every day. It hasn't gone lower than the $218 I got the ticket for but I just don't understand how they can change the cost every day. Can fuel prices change this often for them?

I think it fluctuates based on how many searches are done for the dates and how many seats are available on the plane. I feel that Continental is notorious for doing this. Good thing you booked when you did... I just booked our Jetblue flight for our trip and from yesterday to today was $40 difference for all 4 of us. (not in our favor) Still in all $269 roundtrip after taxes for direct flights there and back. Funny thing is that you're booking so far in advance... what if prices of gas go down? We still pay out the nose lol

I've noticed this too. Continental is one of the few airlines that flies out of our area, and prices change constantly. And unlike Southwest, you're just out of luck if prices go down after you buy your tickets.

I'm sure as fuel prices jump up and down, that's a factor too...

They do fluctuate a bunch. I just find a flight I like with a price I am willing to pay, and not worry if the person next to me on the plane paid more or less.

I think airlines love to play with our emotions/wallet. Okay, more than likely not. But I swear I don't understand airfare 149.00 one day and over 350 the next. And no I don't think that the airline is near to selling out over 6months away. Just my thought.
ps We love Continental but they are crazy HIGH> THEY want over 300.00 for round trip.( and that is for the cheap crazy time seats)

I agree that the flights I am taking are not near to selling out. As a matter of fact, besides the three of us only two additional rows are taken with reservations. Anyway, I think I really lucked out the day it was $218 roundtrip from Jersey.

that's because the cheap seats are sold

This is the same thing for every airline...as the planes fill up, the prices go up. Face it, if you want to go and everyone's prices are going up, then that's what you have to pay.

Sometimes, when theer are a few scattered seats left, you may see the "limited offer" only "four tickest left".

I will say that that JetBlue out or Newark in August will be $69 each way ($159.20 total round trip after fees and taxes)

you may have jumped the gun by booking so early

Usually Jet blue fares that are $69 each way are weekdays and I cannot travel from the middle of a week to the next middle of a week. I leave on a Saturday and come home on a Sunday. I really don't think fares will go much lower than $218 roundtrip out of Newark for what I am looking for.

I think 218 right now is great, esp for newark
and an fyi on the fuel., the airlines buy it in bulk way before all the crazy gas prices keep changing daily..and jet fuel is different than car fuel..

not a nudge but..

Just saying, $60 bucks X3 = 180 or in disney math, that is dinner at CRT Plus 3 Dole Whips..

However, the price you have you have (which is the cheapest available) and I am rolling the dice waiting on JetBlue....so I hope I am right.

You're price is great and you should have no regrets because you have tickets!
