Car Rental at Airport

When you rent a car on site at the airport, how far is the car lot actually from the terminal? I've seen the rental counters but do not recall ever seeing any signs pointing to where the lots are. If you have alot of luggage do they let you take one of those carts with you to the car or could you go get the car and return to pick up your family and luggage.

The one time I rented a car there they had a section of the parking garage with cars.

It depends on the company. If it is offsite, you load a shuttle bus right outside the terminal with your luggage. All is then delivered to the car/rental location.

The lot is across the street from where you get the buses, but some companies are located off site, in which case you take a shuttle bus from the same location. You can take the luggage cart to the parking lot

It's really not that far! I'd highly suggest the luggage cart! Definitely worth the money to get the stuff over there!

Most are right across the street. Take a look at Travelocity Travel: Cheap Airfare, Hotels, Flights, Vacations, Cruises & Car Rentals and do a car search. When you get to the results page and look at the rental companies listed across the top, they tell you which company is in the terminal and which requires a shuttle. Off the top of my head, I believe Payless, Advantage, and Hertz require a shuttle. The rest of them are literally right across the street. And yes, you can use the luggage cart and drag the entire family with you to get your car. We've done that multiple times!!!! It's really rather easy.

The hardest part is waiting in line to get the car!!! I would suggest to sign up for the car rental companies Express service (they're all called something different). Then you get to go in the Express line - think First Class line - and skip the long line with all the people. You can sign up online (with most, if not all rental companies) and the main thing they require is your drivers license number, credit card number, and insurance option (yes or no). Very nice!!! Or with Alamo, you can also skip the line by using their kiosk's. That was awesome - just enter your credit card that you reserved with, it pulls up all the information, prints your receipt, and off you go to the garage. You don't have to talk to anybody until you pull out of the garage and show the person in the booth your information. Soooo easy!!!

Thanks. I actually have two reservations. One with National and one with Alamo botrh of which are on site. I keep checking each day to see if prices go down and then will cancel the other one closer to the time. There aren't too many coupons for August 2010 out now but the reservation with Alamo for 9 days is only $225. I don't think I will get lower than that.

most discounts are given 90 days out (or from what I can see) I've been searching for a suv/ minivan for our next trip. However no luck, yet. But I check at least very two days, or so. I'm just not going to get my hopes up. Try name your own price on priceline. If you have airfare and your dates are firm. You may save some $$

It's not far at all. We use Avis and have to take the elevator down to the underground tunnel to the parking garage, then take the elevator up to the level where their cars are. We usually just take our luggage with us (no cart) as we have all our luggage on wheels, so they're easy to pull behind us.

I've gone that way before too. Last time I rented a car, I went to pick up the car while my parents waited outside the terminal with the luggage. I picked them up and off we went. It's not really that far, plus soon as you go outside in that Florida sunshine, it's like ahhh, we are here!

Have u looked into Dollar? their cars r on first floor of garage. We got a midsize in sept for $150/wk plus tax. Used code from Mousesavers.

If u want something not too far and not have to worry about traveling to 2nd floor of garage check into Dollar.

I'm a fan of Alamo. Pre-pay online, save 10%, skip the lines and the kiosks, just print out the contract from home. Across the street, load up the car, and stop at the exit booth, easy peasy.

From MCO's website: Orlando International Airport (MCO) - Rental Cars

I've rented from Thrifty/Dollar/Alamo/National. Very easy to get to the cars.

This will be my 2nd trip using Alamo and I booked through Costco so I could get the discount and the free additional driver...you don't know if I could prepay and do all that, do you? I'm pretty sure I can't, because of the additional driver, I think I might be stuck waiting in line. Last year we used those kiosks while everyone else waited in the huge line, it was so easy, but I'm not sure I can do that this year.

This goes against what I usually do, like you I had a couple of car rentals booked. With Dollar and Budget. Dollar was marginally cheaper, but instead of cancelling Budget, I kept it as a back-up because I was unsure of Dollar. I was very glad I did!!
Got to Dollar, reserved a mid size, with 3 peoples luggage, 1 mid size and 1 roller carry on each, we needed the room for our luggage, and we were driving from Ft. Lauderdale to WDW. Was in So. Fla for a couple of weeks first. Anyway: got to Dollar and for a mid size they were going to give us a PT Cruiser (no trunk room) or a 2 door Mustang, (again no trunk room) I told them I needed a mid size with a trunk, they said sorry, this is what we have. You can pay extra to upgrade to a larger car

So I left Dollar, they didn't care, and went to Budget. Sooooo glad I kept the booking! They ended up giving me an upgrade to a SUV, no extra charge!!
