Re: Car Rentals

Hertz is AAA's preferred car rental partner, so that's probably why they told you there weren't any other options. I'd go ahead and explore the other options as I've always found Hertz to be one of the most expensive options out there! Good luck...DU

Re: Car Rentals

Couple things I thought I'd pass on:

1. If renting at airport and returning at a location in Lake Buena Vista, I would ask (many times) the people renting you the car to verify that there will NOT be a "drop charge," which is customarily charged if you return the car to a different location than where you rented it. (I got hit with one of these once when I rented a car at Dulles Airport and returned it to the agency's office at Union station in DC.)

2. The best comparison website I've found for rental cars is breezenet, www.bnm.com. You can put in your dates, and they'll display for you what each company will charge, both as a daily rate and the net total including all the add-ons. Very useful for comparison purposes between car sizes, agencies, etc.

Hope this helps! By the way, I've rented from thrifty on the previous trips, and had an excellent experience with them even though they're off-airport. In fact, I left my sunglasses in the car when returning and one of their employees found them and tracked me down at the airport to return them to me. Very good service.

Regards,

Joe

Re: Car Rentals

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of or used Holiday Car Rental? If so, what was your experience with them. Right now they are the best deal I can get. Thanks

Re: Car Rentals

Welcome to the Boards!

I don't know much about them but there website says they are 5 miles from the airport. Holiday Car Make sure to take this into consideration as you will probably have to take a shuttle to them. I hope others can answer your question better. Good luck!

Re: Car Rentals

Thanks Dianne.

The shuttle doesn't bother me if I can save money to spend on my vacation. I think I will call the BBB and see if they have any negative feedback then make my decision.

Re: Car Rentals

When checking out rentals, be sure to check the actual rental site as well as the pricelines, etc. I found a rental price that was half the price quoted on the company site than was listed at the price quoting sites!

Re: Car Rentals

I don't know if this helps but I have rented from Hertz, Thifty & Dollar Renal Car and I can honestly say Dollar is the best. They have a pick up location at MCO. Hertz & Thifty were horrible experiences. I have had 3 bad experiences from Hertz & 1 from Thifty. THe three from Hertz you htink I would have learned from the first time but after the first time they gave me a free rental on my next rental from them adn the third I did not have any choice. Each time they had me in the system wrong, gave me the wrong car and over charged me. With Thifty, I was in a car accident on the way to the airport and I had to reschedule my flight going home. It took me 2 hours of filling out paper work. Plus I had contacted my insurance agent and it took 9 months to get it settled. THifty harassed me with phone calls and letters, They refused to talk to my insurance company. Plus Thifty is owned by Hertz. With Dollar I have never had a problem. THey are so nice and helpful plus I have gotten upgrades sometimes with out asking.

Re: Car Rentals

Okay, now here's a question...We are going on a 7 day DC in Sept.'06,we want to rent a car when we fly in,drive to Port Canaveral, drop off the car and rent another one when we return. Which agency has permits for the port?

Budget, Hertz, and Avis have rental locations near the port. They also offer a free shuttle from their lot to the cruise terminal.

Re: Car Rentals

Thank you for the response. I neglected to mention that when we finish our cruise,we want to drive to WDW for 4 days at POFQ. I assume that we would then drop the car off at The Car Care Center at MK. While checking out Alamo's website, I could not get any listing for the CCC,what do I do?

Re: Car Rentals

dahuffy, I would put a call into Alamo and ask whether you can return your car at the car care center. I suspect the answer will be yes. They are nominally a separate company from National, but the parents of the two companies merged about a year, year and a half ago. That is why Alamo suddenly started having an on-airport counter -- it's the National counter, now used by both companies. So I suspect you could return the car to the National desk at the car care center, but I would put a call to 800-go-alamo (800-462-5266) and just ask them.

good luck!

Joe

Re: Car Rentals

Anyone tried E-Z Rent a Car? I'm asking for my parents who are flying into MCO next month. They're a little leary of renting from a no-name outfit but are interested in the low price. They want "a comfortable car" which means a large, smooth riding full size car.

Thanks for any information!

Hey Folks,

So I have a question about picking up a car. We're going to rent a car after our stay at WDW, and I'm trying to figure out how the most convenient way to do that. We're staying at the Contemporary Resort; should I try to pick up a car from somewhere in the World, or just take the ME back the airport and get the car there?

Thanks!
