Fort Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge

Wasn't sure where to post this one so, since it is more transportation related, I chose here.

Here is the deal. My DMIL is mobility impaired and, although she can walk, she can't do really long distances.

So...if we want to go eat at WL which is better to do...take the boat or the bus?

How far is it to walk from the boat dock to Whispering Canyon?

How far is it to walk from the bus stop to Whispering Canyon?

Re: Fort Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge

Never done it by bus - but the trip by boat is really nice! I've heard horror stories about the internal bus system at Ft. Wilderness.

The boat goes to the boat dock at WL, it is then a short walk up the path by the pool to the lodge - then up maybe 3 steps, although there is a ramp to the Whispering Canyon Cafe. If your MIL can walk short distances, she should have no trouble, but if so, does she use an ECV - as this would be no trouble as well!

Re: Fort Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge

The walk from the boat dock is a little bit further. It's on a 'boardwalk' style walkway that zig-zags a little. It'll bring you into the back of the lodge. If you enter back at Roaring Forks, you'll have an uphill walk up a slight ramp (the lobby is actually on the second level).

The boat seemed to take longer than the bus - it depends on how quick you can catch the internal bus. It's a straight shot from the bus drop off up thru the lobby and directly thru to the Whispering Canyon. The walkway from the bus to the lobby is covered where the boat dock is not. It's slightly uphill to the lobby, but I believe it's a shorter walk.

If needed, there are benches right at the bus stop and you could go see about using a wheel chair.

Re: Fort Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge

Rock,

I'd go ahead and take the bus to WL from FTW. At least that way, she won't need to walk up any stairs. When you're tired, that walk from the boat dock to the WCC seems like a long one!!
