| Camping to Disney My DH just bought us a travel trailer for Christmas!!!!!!!!! We are just sooooooo excited! We hope to make a journey to WDW this Feb (2002)! We have three children ages 8,3,and 2. We are looking for any suggestions, stops, side stops for sights, etc. that you may have! (We live on Long Island, NY!) We think it'll be at least a 2-3 day trip each way. We are open for any suggestions.......especially getting off of the island with a HUGE rig! We have a double cab pick up and a 30 ft. trailer...... Thanks for all of your input! We sure do appreciate it! Stephanie [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Stepdisney ] |

| Re: Camping to Disney You are going to have soooo much fun camping, especially at Disney. We did it last year and my husband swears he will never do it any other way!! Are you driving down 95 to get to Fl? We always drive that way and even though we had made the trip many times, until we got the camper, I never knew there were campgrounds located on some of those exits. KOA has really nice, reasonable ones. You can pull through and not need to un-hitch. Just drive out in the morning. We stayed in one in Florence SC, which they advertise as the "half way" point to Disney. That is what we intend to do again when we go down in Dec. If you need any other info, don't hesitate to ask! | Re: Camping to Disney WOW! Thanks for the info.........I'm definitely interested in any other ideas that you have for the trip down. (Especially the campgrounds on the way!) I hope it all works out well.....I'm a bit nervous about driving such a large rig for the first time. I'm confident that I can do it, but I'll drive around the neighborhood for the next few months just to get "the hang of it". Any other ideas are greatly appreciated! | Re: Camping to Disney We never took a camper to WDW, but we have driven down 95 from PA. It's a lovely drive. There's a place we always stop on our way to WDW or to see family in SC - South of the Border, Dillon, NC. The best part of the drive is reading their billboards. I don't know if there ar camping or even trailer facilities, but I'm sure you can find out on the web. South of the Border is a silly little tourist trap that sells some fireworks and tacky souvenirs. (We love kitchy, tacky little road trip souvenirs.) It's a great break from 95 and there are places to get a bite to eat. It's really a little town. It's also great for road trip photo ops. Statues of gorillas, dolphins, and even a great white shark, abound for photos. Ther's even a gigantic statue of Pedro! (the "creator" of South of the Border). On our last trip to SC, I bought a pamphlet full of "Pedro's" billboards (some of these billboards actually get fan mail!). The pamphlet also includes the "history" of South of the Border. It's great, silly fun and really makes you appreciate the magic of Disney when you get to WDW. I hpoe you have time to check it out and enjoy it!!! |

| Re: Camping to Disney Thanks again for the message. I too think that is a fun place. I especially LOVE the billboards leading up to the actual South of The Border. Lots of Laughs! Thanks for the interest in our trip. I'm DYING to hear more from all. I just can't WAIT!!!!!!!!! We are sitting on pins and needles! |
