Re: Sending package before I arrive

We always send ours so it arrives before we do. UPS can tell you how long it will take. We also include our reservation number on the outside of the book, the CM told us this really helps them.

Re: Sending package before I arrive

Can i ask what you normally send before you go? I am just curious as this might be useful for my trip the end of May.

Thanks

We send those cereal cups, granola bars, bagels, utensils (although you can grab those from the food court) fruit snacks and anything else that we like to have for breakfast or carry with us into the parks.

Re: Sending package before I arrive

We sent Mt. Dew, coffee, creamer, filters, sweetner, laundry soap, shampoo&conditioner, body wash. All that stuff weighed 32 pounds and I sure am glad that I'm not lugging it in my suitcase!!

We did this last time and it was great to not have food stuff in the luggage. Plus we held onto the box and mailed stuff back!

Re: Sending package before I arrive

OK, I have a question that will make you all realize how cheap I am. Isn't it expensive to send all of this stuff down to Florida? Do you guys send it ground when you use UPS? I'm just trying to weigh it out (hardee, har, har) versus just using my 12-year-old pack mule, Zack, to carry a 32-pound suitcase. Any advice or cost estimates?

Mine cost me about $45 tax and box included to ship it via FedEx. The money was worth it to me. We usually just carry the toiletries down, but this time we had a couple of 6 packs of Mountain Dew. Yes, we could make a grocery stop, but I'd rather get to the resort.

Last time I shipped down to WDW, I had 4 boxes of stuff for a 10 night stay. Baby stuff= formula, diapers, baby food etc. that would have given us way too many suitcases for the plane and too many for us to carry.

I don't think you're cheap, and I like how you're weighing your options!!

Glad I could help!! I have this huge problem of using just the right amount of suitcases for the trip down, but I never factor in my souvenir room. I'm tired of buying a suitcase just to get home! This frees up a ton of room.
And I bought all generic stuff at cheap prices, so if I choose to throw it all away, I'm not out much $$$.

Re: Sending package before I arrive

Karen,

I tend to send very lightweight things - oatmeal and cereal cups, some chips, fruit snacks, individually wrapped danish, etc. I don't send things like juice boxes because they're too heavy.

I send it UPS ground if it's heavy but the new Priority Mail boxes they offer (where you can send everything that fits in the box for a set price) are a good deal too. I generally spend about $12 sending something down, so I only do it for longer trips where I can't make room in my bags for it. (You've seen how little my kid eats, so these --somewhat -- nutritional snacks are very handy and save on me buying a big meal that would just go to waste on him.)

Lately, I've just been using larger-than-necessary luggage and packing the food in that. It makes extra room for the souven-ears!

Re: Sending package before I arrive

We did this for our MouseFest 2005 trip and it was great! We shipped diapers, wipes, disposable sippy cups, snacks and other things via UPS Ground. Our box was waiting for us when we checked in. I want to say we spent around $15 to ship it. We will definitely do this again!

Re: Sending package before I arrive

I opened up a FedEx/Kinkos account so I can ship and print labels and stuff - we're driving down with another couple so I plan to ship most of our clothes (other than the overnight stay stuff) + snacks, drinks etc- This will free up room in the SUV for Laptops, cameras, camcorders - ya know - the guy tech necessities
