Chicago for one Please!

I leave on Tuesday for Chicago. For three days I will have to go to work meeting (actually they aren't all day meeting so it isn't so bad). On Wednesday is the Cubs game. Two of my co-workers are also going...along with a group of 52 other from other state/regions in our company. I am so excited! Is that weird...to be excited about work? I have never been to Wrigley Field. It is standing baseball history!

Anyway...after the meetings I am staying for 2 extra nights. I found a really good rate at Springhills Suites (Marriott) and it is less then a half mile from Union Station. They have a FREE airport shuttle and a full continental breakfast which is also free. The room was only $94 a night with my AAA discount! The hotel got really good reviews on travelocity.

My plans are to take the train to the city on Thursday after the meeting and go to Navy Pier and find a good place for dinner. On Friday I am going to head to the Field Museum. I am sure I will do alittle shopping.

Belle will be going to doggy camp for 4 night and Mr. Max will not be packed in my suitcase...he has to stay home. Aunt Rachelle is coming over to feed him.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! My DSIL used to live somewhere next to Wrigley Field, I was never there. So I hear it is an awesome place! Have fun and don't work too hard.

Re: Chicago for one Please!

Hi Robin,

Glad you are going to Wrigley. It's a great old park! Bring a very warm jacket just in case as you will freeze your behind off if the wind if off the lake. Especially since our temps are not over 65 this week. And if your not too cold, have a frosty malt for me

I am concerned about your hotel. YOu will be staying 5 minutes from O'Hare which is NOWHERE near Union Station much less downtown Chicago. You may be several miles away from a train station (Metra commuter line) or "L" station that can get you into the city. But it would be about 1/2 hour trip. You are also in the suburbs , close to Rosemont, and it would be very hard to get around without a car-go shopping- out to eat. I would double check with the hotel and see if they offer transport to the train stations if you want to stay out there. I know the Hyatt O'Hare is within walking distance to the "L" (Blue Line). You also don't want to stay near Union Station (I don't think there is a hotel close by). After work and on the weekends, the area is fairly dead. Not a lot of restaurants/shops stay open.

If you want to stay in the city (downtown), I always try Hotwire and look for hotels in North Michigan/Waker drive area. Right now there is a 4 star for $139. Which isn't too bad for the city. You can never go wrong with a 4 star downtown.

Good Luck and if you have any questions, PM me!

Re: Chicago for one Please!

The hotel is off Higgens. It looked it up on Mapquest and it is just .68 mile from the train station. If worse comes to worse I can take the free airport shuttle to the airport and take the train from there. As far as eating I am not too concerned there is a resturant in the hotel and on vacation I usually just eat breakfast and dinner.

I am pretty street smart (I went to college in Boston) and I am use to riding public transportation (I didn't have a car until I was 24 ). Thanks Michele! I will call the hotel though to see if walking to the train station is possible.

Re: Chicago for one Please!

Robin,
I apologize if my post came across as a little strong.

I am glad that you got a great deal on the hotel and I hope the the weather holds out for you -- looks like low to mid 70s next week. Perfect weather.

Did you find the CTA website ? They have a handy planner that tells you how to get anywhere in the city (which lines/buses etc.)

Enjoy your trip!
