San Diego/ El Cajon??

I'm planning on going to El Cajon in the summer. I know it's really close to San Diego, and don't mind driving (I'll rent a car with unlimited milage).

My question is: Is there an area/hotel you would recommend or NOT recommend, and why?
I don't want to find a great deal on a hotel, and then have it be in the ghetto.

Like wise don't want something in "Millionaire's row" if there is one there.

Expedia only lists a very few places actually in El Cajon, and the 9nly one that looks decent to me is the Sycuan Resort and Casino. If that's out of your price range or has no vacancies, then I personally would go w/ something closer to the San Diego area. Mission Valley/Hotel Circle's not too far away, and you should be able to get a good deal on Piceline or Hotwire. Check Priceline and Hotwire Forum, Winning Bids, and Bidding Help or BiddingFortravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum for tips.

Thanks. I also noticed that there appeared to be few places in El Cajon and didn't know where would be good in SD. You've given me a good place to start.

I keep getting emails from this place: Lafayette Hotel San Diego* Lafayette Hotel San Diego CA * Lafayette Hotel SD * LafayetteHotelSD.com . Don't know how I ended up on their list. The pics look nice. It's on El Cajon Blvd but in SD. It's near the zoo, so near Balboa Park. I just did a check for the heck of it for 6/17-20, and they were running some kind of special (Affordable Rate or something like that)for $109/night. Anyway, maybe you can check TripAdvisor to find reviews on it.

EDIT: I checked TripAdvisor. I would probably skip this place. Sorry!
