Oh no there are many things to do in Austin. My parents and two brothers live there. We are going down for a few days at Christmas as well.
There is great music on 6th street (my nephew plays in a band there), the LBJ museum at UT, Barton Creek Golf resort is one of the top golf resorts in the country, the duck boat that goes down the Colorado River, the bat watch at sunset from under the Congress street bridge, the Texas State House and Governors Mansion and the hills north of Austin (aka Hill Country).
If you have time a drive down to San Marcos will take you to a HUGE outlet mall that is unbelievable! It has a large Disney Store outlet and is a whole day adventure.
Now I do like San Antonio and there is alot to do there as well, but Austin is really nice and laid back (compared to Dallas) so you should have a great time!
take a 75 mile drive south and go see San Antonio, makes a great day trip
San Antonio is a great place to see. I was there almost 2 years ago, I only wish I would have had more then 4 hours there. Go to the Alamo and to River walk. You will have a great time.
If you have the time also check into going up to Dublin TX and go to the Dr. Pepper plant there. Their Dr. Pepper is diffrent then what you can get at your house. And while there get the mix to make the Dr. Pepper cake and icing mix, just make sure you get the Dr. Pepper there to make it.

Yes the Dr. Pepper plant is also neat but that is farther north (near Waco) which is a couple of hours away.
