Smithsonian Institution

The National Museum of American History is just one piece of a very big Institution, and has been closed since '06 for the current rehab. It's closure isn't a small thing - sort of like closing an entire land at a Disney park, but you still need a few weeks to take in everything that's still open.

The museum was supposed to open sooner, but is not.

That's too bad that it will be closed during the peak summer touring season. At least the Air and Space museum will still be open.

Darn it. We are looking at heading up at the end of June/beginning of July and I was hoping it would be reopened by then.

We purposely didn't go last year because this particular museum was closed. Now it still won't be open for our trip this summer! I'm bummed - I wanted to see the Puffy shirt!

this actually happens to be my favorite museum of the lot. great exhibits on the presidents, pop culture, etc.

i actually find its closure a reason not to go to DC

there's actually an SI annex right here in NYC (in the building next to where I work in fact)

That's pretty neat that the NMAI annex is so close to you! I think that's where it started.
I'm hoping to get the chance to see the Henson / muppet exhibit when it comes here, too.
