| Arizona and the Grand Canyons Well..........I was so sad not planning a trip this year to WDW after planning 2 last year..........that one of the friends that went on my girls-get-away trip suggested that we travel to Arizona to visit the other friend who met us in WDW last Fall...so I'm going.........we already have our airfare (before it keeps going up with the fuel costs) and are making plan to visit the Grand Canyon.......I've never been "out west" so this a new experience (maybe not so "magical" as WDW) but I'm excited about our trip. Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated. rella

| No, I don't think Vegas is in the plans,(I don't even buy lottery tickets...). We will be staying at my friends home in Yuma and doing day trips. We land in Phenoix and I believe that we will go to the Grand Canyon on our way to Yuma. We will spend the first night in Phenoix and meet them the early the next day to start our trip to their home. They belong to a gun club so I think we'll be seeing some dressed-up "cowboys & cowgirls", doing some "shootin".....that should be fun. That's all I know so far......more plans to make. rella

| That sounds like a great trip! We went to see the Grand Canyon in September 2005. It was very impressive (even though I felt like I couldn't really grasp how big it was standing on top). We went there on a day trip while staying in Vegas. It was worth it but I wouldn't fly there in a tiny 20-seat-airplane again as there are some pretty nasty winds above the canyon! Other than that, we really liked Joshua Tree National Park near Palm Springs but that's in California so I don't know if that's anywhere near where you'll be at all. It was kinda neat that you could see three States from one outlook point there (California, Nevada, and Arizona - if I remember correctly). Hope you enjoy planning your trip just as much as you would planning a Disney one

| What time of year are you going? It can be really hot (you feel like a turkey roasting in the oven) or kind of chilly - especially at night, depending on the season. It's been years, but when we went to Arizona, we went to Yuma, Tucson, Casa Grande, Phoenix/Mesa (where my Grandparents had a house), Montezuma's Castle and the Grand Canyon. You can also cross the border into Mexico for a quick day trip and shopping. So I guess I don't have tips so much, as suggestions for day trips!

| We liked seeing Canyon de Chelly. Petrified forest is in AZ. I climbed Camelback Mt. with my friend when I was out the last October. Four corners is neat. The other places we liked were in Colorado and Utah -- Mesa Verde and Glen Canyon and Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

| We loved the Grand Canyon - I would definitely book some sort of excursion to see it, preferably one with either a helicopter or plane involved, as you get a great perspective of it from the air. We took a trip last time that landed in the canyon and in October, we hope to do one that combines air, land and water.

| I haven't been since I was a teenager, but I do remember a couple of things - it's absolutely beautiful, and it's a MILE above sea-level. That means, while it might be 90 degrees at the bottom, it can be 50 at the rim! We FROZE!

| There was frost on the tent every morning. In August. We rode the mules and that was really cool. It's interesting how much things change - not just the temperature - as you get deeper into the canyon.

| We are going for the first time in early June, as we will be in Phoenix for my neice's wedding anyway. We booked a tour through Great West Adventure Co., since I've heard it can be hard to find parking sometimes. Here is the link if you're interested: Sedona Arizona Tours, Grand Canyon Tours and Colorado River Rafting Adventures. Best Value, best buses, best tours...guaranteed!- Our Tours - Grand Experience
