DC Taxicab FYI

Taxis that pick up passengers at Reagan National Airport will be required to have meters by June 1, 2008 which is the same date that DC taxicabs are moving from the zone system to the meters. The city may grant an extension to this deadline as the meters are in short supply.

Just an FYI for you globe-trotters! I prefer the Metro and various busses!

Thanks for the info. We'll be there over Memorial Day Weekend and are planning on a taxi from the airport to our hotel, what should I expect? We considered the Metro, but thought it might be a pain with our luggage.

It may be that some cabs will have meters and some won't at that point. I don't take cabs here, I drive or use the Metro. It may or may not be easier for you to use the metro. If you have a larger party or lotsa luggage, you might want a cab or shuttle, esp. if you have not used the metro before.

If you want to send me a PM with your details I could give you some more advice, if you don't want to post here.

There are only three of us and we're only staying three nights, but it's about a four block walk from the Metro station to our hotel. I think it would be a real pain to haul our luggage that far. The hotel website says that a taxi is approx. $13, I hope they are correct.
