Going to Knoxville Tennesse

Anyone have any tips or must see places for this area? I'm excited since I have never been to Tennesse. It's a school function but there will be down time. Thanks in advance.

We've passed through there on our last two trips to Gatlinburg. Their zoo is nice, but that's the only thing we've ever done *in* Knoxville. They have a baseball team, the Smokies.

It's not that far of a drive to Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, if you have a whole day free, or even half a day, it would be worth it to drive over. Just do some research online to pick and choose what sounds best for you. Sevierville and Pigeon Forge have lots of music/stage shows in the evening, maybe you could have a night out with dinner and a show.

Gatlinburg Tennessee: Heart of the Great Smoky Mountains

All three of these websites have excellent service, if you have even just a couple of weeks left, they should be able to get a brochure to you in time. Otherwise, you can at least read online about their options.

Head downtown near the World's Fair Park. I haven't been there yet, but have heard that the city is adding a lot down there. I know you can now go into the Sun Sphere and climb to the top and look out. There's the Women's Basketball Museum too.

If you go to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge allow plenty of time to get there or to get back, if you're going in a few weeks. The traffic on Dolly Parton Parkway is horrible. There is the Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg. We're going in a couple of days. The Knoxville Zoo is nice and has an awesome Children's area.

Knoxville

I live close to Knoxville. Let me know the time frame and how long you have, and I can suggest several things. To eat, definitely try Calhoun's on the River downtown. The zoo is lovely as well. If you have time, the best thing to do is travel 30 to 40 minutes from Knoxville to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg to the Smoky Mountains. This is a beautiful area but parts of Knoxville are really run down. Best shopping is right off of I-40 called Turkey Creek. Please be aware that downtown Knoxville is a little chaotic right now as part of I-40 has been closed down for construction and you have to bypass it at 640. SmartFix - I-40/James White Parkway/Hall of Fame Drive - Tennessee Department of Transportation Feel free to email me and Ill be happy to let you know more! Have a wonderful trip!

I agree about the world's fair park! The sun sphere is really cool to see and possibly go up in. I would say i really liked the Knoxville Zoo, we went there a few times while i lived there. It would be nice to go to for sure!
