| Parking at Newark Penn Station Hi All, We're taking our NYC trip in October. We'll be staying in Elizabeth, NJ close by Newark Airport. I will be renting a car and plan to drive to Newark Penn Station to take the PATH into NYC. My question is where do I park? I've tried to contact some of the lots on the old Parking Guide, but it looks like that isn't even printed anymore...now there's web links on the PATH site that don't give you much info at all re: parking. Answers I'm looking for: Where to park. How much does it cost to park for a day? Is there a shuttle from the lots to the PATH station or are they walking distance? Is it safe to walk from the PATH station to your car (in one of those lots) at night? (I don't foresee us being out any later than 9pm) Thanks for your help!

| Since this is your first trip to NYC.......why stay in Elizabeth NJ? Not the nicest of places, and not all that convenient to NYC. Parking near Newark Penn Station is not cheap. Expect to pay big city prices to park starting at $15 and up. I'm also not a big fan of walking around Newark after dark either. |

| Where in Elizabeth are you staying? Are you sure you want to do that? It's not exactly a nice or safe place and I wouldn't recommend walking after dark in Elizabeth OR Newark. Not sure about the parking near the Path. The Gateway Towers are across the street from the Path. I know they have a parking garage but I don't know if it's for everyone or just those working in those buildings. Here is a link that might help answer some of your questions: Newark Gateway Area Travel: Tourism Directory & Vacation Guide for Newark Gateway Area, New Jersey. Good Luck!!!

| you should check with your hotel if they have a shuttle to the train station also you can take nj transit in to the city New Jersey Transit - Home I wouldn't recommend staying in Elizabeth either, Hoboken is much nicer and safer or just stay in the city.

| We're staying in Elizabeth because I have a timeshare that I hate, but need to use up my points or lose them. Extended Stay America in Elizabeth was the only place that seemed reasonably close to NYC that I have enough points for...but I'd be willing to pay out of pocket for a reasonably priced hotel somewhere else if y'all think it's safer. The other reason we chose that is because we simply do not know any better...this will be our first trip.

| I would recommend changing your plans if you can. I don't think you will be happy. Trust me. I would either try to find something resonably priced in Manhattan or try Hoboken or Jersey City. Both places are much safer and you can take the path into Manhattan.

| Don't stay in Elizabeth or Newark! Neither place is great and you won't be happy. If anythings available I would look in downtown Brooklyn. The hotel's are expensive but really nice and still cheaper than in Manhattan. See if anythings available. If not, check out Hoken in Jersey or something in the city.

| Glad you are thinking of changing your mind...... Can you use points at other Extended Stay America Hotels..... If so then stay in Ramsey NJ!. You can drive 5 min to catch the train (NJ Transit) in either Ramsey or Allendale. Less than an hour away. It is located on a major road with plenty of restaurants nearby and in a good area as well! There are also 2 in the Meadowlands / Secaucus area which are closer to Manhattan. The one in Rutherford is a good choice as well! It should be near the Rutherford train station (I cant picture it). Parking there is plentiful but not cheap (I think something like a $1 an hour). Neighborhood is good, again lots of restaurants around. Very convenient to NYC |

| My husband is from the Newark area and his mother actually still works in Newark. They would all recommend against walking around at night. For our wedding reception, a friend of mine was coming into Neward on the train. We went to pick her up. Hubby went into the train station and had me wait in the car outside and he was adamant about leaving the doors locked until he got back to the car - not until I saw him, but until he was actually back at the car.
