Savannah. Does anyone have any good sources of information on Savannah - things to see and do?

I would definitely do a carriage ride while you're there - it's a great way to see the place and we really enjoyed ours, although it was pretty cold the day we were there.

I love Savannah! Get up bright and early one morning and get in the line for lunch at The Lady & Sons, Paula Deen's Restaurant. (But also check in later in the afternoon to see if there was a no-show. You may be able to sneak in!) Walk the various squares, have tea at The Gryphon - Savannah College of Art & Design's student run tea room, take a carriage ride, sign up for a Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil tour, walk along River Street.... I could go on and on!

We were there in May.
The food at Mrs. Wilkes was waaaay better than the food at Paula Deens. Though the folks at the PD gift shop advise skipping the buffet and ordering from the menu. Apparently her chicken pot pie is to die for. We were there on a Sunday so it was buffet only. Mrs. Wilkes only serves lunch Mon-Fri.
We highly recommend Leopold's ice cream.
It's a great city to walk -- the squares are lovely and everything is closer than it looks on the map.
We did a ghost tour -- I think with Cobblestone tours. It was a walking tour of town and more history and the story of the ghost, not going in the buildings looking for them. Enjoyed it.
We had an 8 year old girl with us so did the Girl Scout sites - both of the Low houses, and the old headquarters (which you can easily skip if Scouting isn't your thing, though the houses are lovely anyway)
Didn't do the Mercer House (from Midnight in the Garden..) which I regret but we ran out of time in a week. The Isaiah Davenport House was a wonder of restoration.
River Street is a bit touristy and overpriced, but a nice stroll anyway. Gotta go to the candy shops and see the Waving Girl statue! If you're lucky there will be dolphins that far up the river.

My parents ate here last year, and loved it. They did dinner---but they had to go very early in the day to put they're names in, and then you line up later in the day. They did the buffet so they could try a little of everything.

I also love the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil idea!!!!!

I love Savannah! I'm not sure when you're thinking of going, but I've gone down twice for Saint Patty's Day, and it's FANTASTIC! They have a great parade and a lot of activites going on. I've also been in the fall, and it was very nice. A couple of years ago, we took a carriage ride - it was supposed to be a History of Savannah one, but the guide was having a slow day, so she gave us that one and this "Savannah Hollywood" tour (they film a lot of movies there, including Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil [of course] and Forrest Gump) all in one - excellent! We've done a Haunted Savannah walking tour, too.

Try to stay waterfront if you can - Riverwalk / Bay Street is a great place to be for shopping and eating. There are a lot of neat little stores. One of my favorite things to do there, and in Charleston, is go to a couple of thrift stores downtown - they always have the best stuff. One of my favorite places to get breakfast is Cafe Ambrosia - so cozy. I know last trip we went, we tried The Olde Pink House, and it was nice, although pricey. A place we never miss is The Cotton Exchange. Of course, you have to eat at The Lady and Sons if you've never been.

We did a ghost tour, dolphin tour, lighthouse tour and saw 3 forts--Jackson, Pulaski, and Scriven (sp) toured the Lowe home, and the first GS council office. We also did a program at the marine center--salt water march, beach walk but then we're from MO and beaches and oceans are a rare thing for group.
