Holland America and San Juan questions?

We are currently chosing our cruise for March 09 out of Ft. Lauderdale. We are currently looking at traveling on Holland America cruiseline. We previously have used Carnival and Norweigan. Can anyone tell me what their thoughts were on Holland America?
Second part to my question is regarding San Juan. We are trying to decide between San Juan as stop or St. Maarten. What are your thoughts on San Juan?? is it worth the stop???

I'm sure there will be others with more information than I can give you, but I thought I would share anyway. My DM/FILs love Holland America. They have been on over 20 cruises and have always had good experiences on HA. I do believe that it tends to cater to the somewhat older crowd, which is perfect for them. (we went on a Disney cruise with them recently and, well, let's just say they won't be doing that again....long story)

As far as San Juan goes, on a cruise we took in Dec. we stopped at both San Juan and St. Maarten. My younger BIL and SIL really liked the night life San Juan had to offer. St. Maarten seemed a bit more laid back and I liked the shopping that was available, esp. on the French side. But, with only a few hours on each island, my perception could be very skewed. Good luck!

Holland America is a nice cruise line. Both islands are beautiful and worth seeing, and they are very different in many ways. What would you like to see/do at ports of call would be my question and that may help you decide. Have you looked at other cruise lines or is HA your definite choice?
