Six Flags Baltimore/Washington, DC or Kings Dominion, VA? Which one is a better park to go to on short notice?

DSIL wants to go to a Theme Park and was supposed to go this week or next with a friend whom we had to drop back off in NY early due to a family matter, so she wants us to come with her. I've never been to either and they're both either an hour to 2 hour drive from where we live? Any tips would be great on either park. I know she Prefers Kings Dominion and thinks they're both the same company. We do know Six Flags has their Specials for Admission right now too. I did research that Six Flags you can prepurchase your Refillable Cups, Parking, and Food Vouchers for the day of travel as well as snacks which makes a lot of sense. We just want to make sure she has a fun day before heading back to college. Like last year we took her to Hershey Park for the day, and we're doing the same for her this year since she does help us out a lot with DS when she's home from school. I did feel really bad she would have had nobody to go to Kings Dominion with, but she knows we're just as much of Theme Park Fanatics as she is. Any tips and advice since I've never been to either one would greatly help us out. I've only been to Six Flags Great America in Chicago and that was many moons ago. We are bringing DS (2) with us so we do know we will need some rides and attractions he might be able to enjoy with us. Thanks for all your help. We're going August 7th or 21st when DH has his usual every other Fridays off of work if that helps for time frame help.

I'd vote for KD over Six Flags in DC. There's a lot of crime at Six Flags and our car was broken into last time we went. It was locked, nothing was in view, but someone broke in and stole the change from the cubbies.

Agreed. I definitely would vote for KD over any Six Flags. Not only the crime, but there rides tend to be less safe then most other amusement parks.

Thank you all for your honest opinions! Now that we've seen a couple commercials for KD and their price is only a couple dollars more! I'm all for safety when it comes to theme parks, especially with a 2 year old, but for us all! Given I've never been to either one and don't know what either are like for a day trip for us to all enjoy spending together, I appreciate honesty from you all! It does help make the decision a lot easier to make!

I'm so sorry to hear your car was broken into at Six Flags in DC! That's awful. I most certainly appreciate your honesty on that. That would be a very good reason not to go there if people break into cars there.

I've only lived in NOVA for 2 years now and still don't know the other theme parks around here yet and how safe they are. I'm glad that I could ask about other parks on here too besides Disney to really get honest answers from other PPers who may have visited the Theme Parks closer to the DC/VA Areas! Thank you!
