| Arkansas in March? Ok. I need some help. I need a vacation destination that is within driving distance of southeastern Texas (Houston area) for spring break. I would like to stay away from beaches beings that is where all the kids flock to. It would be in March. I was thinking of Arkansas, but I hear the average temp is in the 50's. Any help out there ? |

| I grew up in Southern Arkansas and I think March is great time to visit. There will be some rain but not bad and if there is a thunderstorm you will be used to that being from Texas. Do you know where in Arkansas you might want to visit? Up in Northern Arkansas in the mountains it will be cooler weather than say in Hot Springs.

I think we are leaning towards the northern area. I want to go to the Diamond Mine up east of eureka springs. I am still researching. I am looking at either west texas, arkansas, and Lousiana. Every where else that is mild in temps requires an airline ticket, which I am trying to avoid or will have all the spring breakers. | |

| I live in Fort Smith, about 2 hours from Eureka Springs and about 1 hour from the Fayetteville area. Hot Springs seems to be popular with families and spring breakers alike in the spring- so we have never gone during that time- can't help you much with that. Eureka Springs is definitely one of my favorite places here. Wonderful cabins and recreational areas- a magnificent downtown to walk around and tour in. If you or anyone in the family is a history buff, Fort Smith itself has a lot to see including the infamous Judge Parker's courthouse and the gallows. Another one of our favorite side trips is the less than 2 hour trip to Tulsa. They have a wonderful zoo and aquarium. Hope this helps! PM if you need any more help!

way of vacation spots but the ones they do have are long drives and not close to each other. Murfreesboro, AR has the Crater of Diamonds State Park where you can go digging for diamonds. Yes they are still finding some every year. It's in the Southern park of Arkansas and near where I grew up. Diamond Mines - Crater of Diamonds State Park There is also a wonderful lodge at Degray State Park in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains. Mountain lake resort: Degray Lake State Park, Arkansas Both of these are located south of Little Rock and are nice if you are the outdoors type of family.

| If you want to drive a little bit further north, I would recommend Branson, as it's one of our favorite spots and has a little something for everybody. But it can get pretty cool. I, too, would love to visit the diamond mine some day, as well as Eureka Springs.
