napa valley hotels

Ok, my dh and I are going to wine country in may. I am overwhelmed with the hotels. It seems that they are just motels or over the top (out of my price range). Can anyone reccoment a middle of the road nice anniversary hotel to stay at. Even a B and b or inn would work. THanks

It's hard to find anything out there that isn't expensive. We went in 2004 and stayed at the Villagio Inn and Spa. Depending on what time of year you want to go, they will sometimes run discount specials.

The hotel and spa are very nice, and I would absolutely stay there again.

It is located in Yountville, just north of Napa, across the highway from Domaine Chandon winery and near a great number of vineyards, including Cakebread, Mondavi, Opus One, Silver Oak, Frog's Leap, Freemark Abbey, and Sequoia Grove (less well known but our favorite!). Have fun!

We stayed at the sister hotel - the Vintage Inn, and it was also very nice. I agree it is difficult to find something not expensive. I do think it is worth the premium to stay in the smaller, more relaxing towns north of Napa. Napa itself is more like a regular city.
