| Need help planning around Morgantown WV. Hello fellow Passporters. I was recently given the duty of planning a trip for our Boyscout group, and having found all of you a most helpful bunch ![]() I need info and tips for Morgantown WV. I am looking for a place for about 40ish folks to stay, such as a school or hostel. They will be in route to the national Jamboree, and need an overnight stop on the way there and again on the way home. We are trying to keep the cost as low as possible. Ther is a Trinity Christian School there, which I plan to contact, as well as several campgrounds. But if any of you are from there or know anything about it I would sure appreciate the help! Thanks so much

| A thoughtful suggestion.....Call the areas district office (or what ever you call it) of the Boy Scouts and see if they can help you in the way of lodging. They might have or know of facilities or other organizations that can help you. Others meaning such organizations as Masonic Lodges, etc. Many of these lodges store extra cots and blankets. Your local office should have access to the correct phone numbers to contact or write to. Use your imagination of other local organizations, people, companies, etc. that you work with. Possibly a father or mother of one of thr scouts knows of or has a connection. Are Boy Scouts allowed to receive contributions? If so put the boys in uniform and visit local stores on a Saturday. A local printer might print some Thank You certificates for free (tax deductable). If it is not legal with the BSA I am sure someone can come up with a similiar legal way. As last resort here are the addresses and phone numbers of other BSAs around Morgantown. "boy Scouts" in Morgantown, WV - MapQuest Yellow Pages Good luck.

| I don't think there are any military bases there. There are a lot of hotels in Morgantown though because of WVU. Try contacting WVU too see if they can help out, I don't know when you are going but if it's when there is no school in session they may be able to let you have some dorm rooms or something. Just a thought, and good luck! My DH is from WV and it is such a pretty state!

| Since Morgantown is my stomping ground, I was really excited to read this...and then I realized that I have no idea how to help, because I have no experience with Boy Scouts. You have gotten several really good suggestions here - I definitely think you should contact the Mountaineer Area Council. It says that they're located in Fairmont, WV, which is really just 15 minutes outside of Morgantown. (And Fairmont is located on the I-79, which is the main interstate in the Morgantown area, and connects to I-68, if you are taking that route instead.) At the very least, they can give you some very solid suggestions as far as affordable housing, if not offer to let you use their campgrounds. My second suggestion would to try and contact WVU's Extension Office in Morgantown. They work primarily with communities around the state, and are very big in 4-H (a kind of "farmer's" Boy Scouts, if you will). Their contact page is here: http://www.wvu.edu/~exten/contact.htm. I'm not really sure which branch you would use - but they could also give you very good general information, if not help you out completely - this sort of thing is very much what they do. When is your trip? Because you might not want to camp out if it's in the late fall/winter/early spring - Morgantown gets very cold (we are in the mountains!). Please let us know what you find out! ![]()
