We have done all three and I would definitely say SOUTHERN! The islands are the most uncrowded and they are beautiful - especially Aruba, Bonaire, St. Kitts.

At the moment Princess is our favorite line but we like the newer ships of Carnival too.

DH and I typically cruise the Western or Eastern Caribbean because we can usually depart from Fort Lauderdale for a round-trip seven day cruise. We prefer Princess Cruise Line as we have always had a great experience on their ships. I prefer the Western Caribbean over the Eastern as I love Grand Caymen and Cozemel. Lots to do there. Good Luck with your cruising decision.

Thanks for both your input! If you have any must dos for any of the islands I would love to here about it?

KathyL- My DH wants to do the Western, because he wants to do Grand Cayman. Torn between this and the southern. Sounds like most people I talk to really like the Princess Cruises.

Chelledun17- The pics online of these islands look so amazing! Did you depart from Puerto Rico? If so, did u go through a travel agent and arrange a hotel/flight to PR?

THANKS!

They are amazing! Plus, we were almost always the only ship in port - a great change from bustling St. Thomas or Key West where there can be six or more.

We booked our own stuff, United typically has the best flight deals to PR. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Airport which gets great reviews and was surprisingly wonderful, especially at Christmas time. Had we not been on a budget I would have splurged on one of the resort type hotels in the old town area.

It was great to go out of San Juan because it felt like we started our tropical vacation before even boarded the ship. The fort El Morro is a must, and we ate at some great restaurants serving Puerto Rican and Cuban food.

My particular must-do recommendations for these islands include snorkeling at Bonaire, an island tour of Aruba (ATV if you're up to it) being sure to stop at the old natural bridge, and a visit to the falls and lake Etang if you hit Grenada. I have written very specific reviews about our cruise (Crown Princess) and many of the islands so PLEASE feel free to ask more specific questions or PM me. For whatever reason, not a lot of people take advantage of these less crowded southern itineraries so it can be tricky to find info.

My favorite is Southern caribbean but eastern is nice as well. Not as big a fan of western ports.

Michelle,
Thanks for all the info!
I wanted to follow up on what you had mentioned regarding specific reviews about your cruise (Crown Princess) and many of the islands, is it on here or on a travel website? I would love to read!

My ship review is here - The Crown Princess - A Solid Four-Star Cruising Experience - Crown Princess - Epinions.com

In the body of the text at the bottom there are links to many of the sites we enjoyed (and some we didn't).

My Hampton Inn San Juan review is here - Never Mind About the Airplanes Overhead, It's a Great Place to Stay - Hampton Inn & Suites/ San Juan,Puerto Rico - Epinions.com

Please PM me if you have any specific questions or would like more info on anything!

We've only done one Caribbean cruise so far so I can't really compare but I still wanted to share my experience. We did the 7-night Western Caribbean cruise on the Disney Magic. The ship was amazing so I can thorougly recommend DCL. We also liked the itinerary. Key West was a must-see for us at least once, but honestly, once was enough. Just too touristy for us. We did a beach excursion on Grand Cayman and a dolphin swim on Cozumel. Both were great and we'd do them again in a heartbeat!

Hope this helps a bit!

Are you still hunting for links for your cruise? If so, which island (or islands)? Any particular sights or attractions?

I would be glad to send you some links?

Below, for reference only, here are two recent links I sent.

On the first link click Photo Gallery to the right of the lady islander.

Welcome - British Virgin Islands Caribbean Destination Tortola Virgin Gorda

We cruised in July to the Eastern Caribbean with RCCL. It was out of Baltimore, so we didn't have to fly anywhere, and we got 5 sea days 4 port days. It was a whole lot of fun.

Right now Celebrity, Norwegian, RCCL, and Carnival sail from Baltimore. There are several different itineraries from each company.

Papa Mouse -Haven't been on in quite a few days...doing tons of research and hoping to finialize very soon. Looks like I will be doing Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, Antigua and St. Croix with Puerto Rico as our port of departure.
I wanted to include BVI and Dominica but can't seem to lock in all the islands with the ship and time frame I need to do. Would love any additional links! Thanks!!!!

JoanW- Didn't know that Baltimore was a cruise departure port. My sister is in VaBeach and indicated that Norfolk is now as well!

Chelledun17- Thanks for your links! I now looking into hotels for an overnight in Puerto Rico. Any hotels in Old San Juan that you would consider???? I going over now to check the inflated prices...

OK, IT'S OFFICAL! I'm BOOKED!!!!

Cruise-RC, Adventure of the Seas. (Second to Disney, but no Southern for Disney)Chose because ratings for kids, everything from rock-climbing walls, miniature golf courses and ice-skating rinks. The Freedom class and Oasis class have even more stuff but do not go to the Southern Caribbean.
Islands are mentioned above.

Now need to finalize PR hotel and figure out details!

Sites of the islands you plan on visiting will start late tomorrow evening as I am invited to a friend's birthday party dinner in WDR.

I will have some of the links ready to go then.

I don't know if the below ones will help you or not. Possibly they are the same ones you have already checked. In this case I will let you have the fun.
