Which Caribbean Island Should We Go To?

DH & I are trying to plan a vacation for us and our friends (2 adults/2 kids - 15 & 13) to somewhere in the Caribbean for next Spring. We are looking for suggestions on which island we should try. We were thinking of Aruba or St. Maarten, but then started to think about trying either Barbados or St. Lucia. So now, we're all confused...that's why I came here! This is a 1st trip to the Caribbean for all of us (minus cruising - 1st trip to the Caribbean island - staying on that island for a week, instead of 4 hours).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm glad you've asked this question. I'll be watching the answers with interest, as we're thinking of Barbados or St. Lucia for our first trip to the Caribbean (outside of a cruise), so I'm interested to see what people say about those....

My first choice of any place in the Caribbean is Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. DH and I love the Bitter End Yacht Club (Bitter End Yacht Club | Caribbean Family Vacation | Exotic Romantic Vacations | Caribbean Weddings | All Inclusive Honeymoon Packages| caribbean scuba diving| 800.872.2392) and have been there several times. I also love St. Johns and would suggest looking into Caneel Bay Plantation or the Westin.

My daughter and I have been to Turks & Caicos and stayed at the beaches resort. It was the most wonderful trip I have ever been on. It was beautiful, tons of tours, resort was great, and people were wonderful

Downside..... It cost me a fortune for a week stay

Its the airfare that will cost you a lot. If you stay at a non all inclusive resort though, it will cost you less. There are plenty of european plan hotels and resorts. Beaches is the only all inclusive though

We love going to Grand Cayman. It's beautiful and the local folks are wonderful. The SCUBA diving is amazing.

We love the Dominican Republic! The country is amazingly poor, but the people are so freindly and nice. Plenty of all-inclusive resorts to choose from. Many Canadians and Europeans travel here because of the good value. We went on a snorkeling tour and scuba diving and both were awesome. We can't wait to go back again.
