Mom and I are going to be vacationing this year in Florida up in St. Augustine for 8 days/9 nights.
Our plan is to drive up on Friday night after work since its only 2 hours away check into our hotel, have dinner on the way and just relax that night.
We will have Saturday to Saturday and then the last day we will have half a day before we drive home.
We are going July 9, 2011 until July 17th, 2011.
We need suggestions for things to see and Things to do as well as where to eat that is "local" must dos! Chain Restaurants really aren't what we prefer because most likely can get them at home!
Thanks

For only spending 1/2 day there, we saw the St Augustine Light house which had great views. It's also supposedly haunted and was featured on "Ghost Hunters" which is why I went there. One of the locals there recommended the Conch House The Conch House Marina Resort St. Augustine Florida for lunch and it was incredible!! We ate out over the ocean and had very good food. We also toured the Castillo de San Marcos Castillo de San Marcos National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) and I really enjoyed it. So much so, that I want to go back and take DH. I know there were many ghost tours and historical areas around the town. I'm sorry I did not get to spend more time there.
As for other restaurants, ask the locals. The woman gave us a choice between the Conch House and another local place, but the other place didn't have any atmosphere so we chose the Conch.
Saltwater Cowboys is a must.... We have been to St. Augustine 4 times, and we ate there everytime. It sits on the ICW, and is made to look like and old hunting and fishing camp. We have loved EVERYTHING that we have ordered. You can view the menu on their website.
Thanks for asking the question. We may be heading up to St. Augustine for the day on our April trip - debating between there and Sarasota right now, so to have information about St. Augustine is very handy.
I have never been to St. Augustine but Jillybean's trip report (a stop on the way to Disney) made me want to go. She packed a lot into a short amount of time but everything she did sounded great.

Personally, I would especially like to check out the martini bar they visited.
