Has anyone been here? DH & I are thinking about visiting for our anniversary this year. It's only a 3.5 hour drive and looks like it would be very worth a visit.
I've thought about going as we are close also, but we just haven't made it yet. Here is an article that was in the Chicago Tribune in 2006 - `Walt's here. You just feel him.' - Page 2 - Chicago Tribune - I have it on my work bulletin board as it's nice to read every once in a while...

Thanks for the article. I like to believe in the fantasy part.
DH had a sporting clays shoot near there several years ago and we were going to make marceline a side trip. We ended up not going because i couldn't find a decent hotel/motel/B&B anywhere near by.

Well, we're going and we're staying at a B&B in Marceline - the Uptown Theatre. It looks interesting - definitely not the best, but I think it will be fine for one night.
Hi! I grew up about 20 minutes from Marceline. I will tell you, it's a very small town. The museum is nice and has lots of neat history about Walt and his family.
I believe the only restaurant (besides maybe a little diner) is a Sonic. The closest towns with restaurants or other shopping is Brookfield & Macon.
There is very little else to do in this area, but keep in mind that this is also one reason that Walt had very special memories of Marceline and the surrounding area. With little to distract you, your imagination can grow and you see & appreciate the little things in life .
I hope you have a great time and please let us know how it goes!
Oh- one little side note- the last time I was at the museum there was a NO PHOTOGRAPHY policy inside.
We went last summer. The town closes at 3pm on Saturdays. But lots you can check out, go to the school and look at the flag pole. Have a malt ice cram at the dinner..YUM 3 of us at with dessert under $20.00, they have a special name but I cant think of it. See the thinking tree...watch out for spider webs. After we drove about an hour over to Hannibal. It also shuts down pretty early 5pm I think. We then just drove back to St. Louis. Have fun!!!
The Be Our Guest podcast covered a trip to Marceline in episode 137- Mike Rahlmann certainly seemed to love it!
I'll have to check that out - thanks!

Bummer on the no photography, but I kind of expected it. I know there's not much to do, that's why we're just staying the one night. We'll leave Friday morning and come home Saturday.

We were thinking of doing the museum on Saturday and everything else on Friday.
