Question Myrtle Beach Experts!

Hi All - we are traveling to Myrtle Beach for my daughter's competition soon and I was wondering if you knew any of the following. We are not staying on the beach like others from our studio, but in the competition hotel ( the Sheraton Convention Center). Here are my questions...

- Does anyone know if there is a grocery service like in Orlando where we can get groceries delivered?

- Are the restaurants expensive?

- Are there any "must do's" that won't break the bank?

- Does anyone know how one gets from the airport to the hotel other than cab?

- Does anyone know if this particular hotel is a long walk to the beach?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I live here in Myrtle Beach. I don't know the answer to your first question, but your hotel is within walking distance of a grocery store. Probably about 4 blocks. Your hotel may have a shuttle from the airport, it would be worth calling and asking. You will be able to see the beach from the hotel because it's only about 6 or 7 blocks back (if that). The food here is going to be about the same as you'd find in Orlando. Expect tourist prices at the big seafood places and mediocre food. As for must do's ...eh, I've lived here for over 20 years, so I'd say no lol, but other people seem to like Broadway at the beach. It's a big shopping area that has some amusement rides and things like zip lines, a Hard Rock Cafe, Wonderworks, Ripley's Aquarium etc...all within walking distance of the Convention Center. It's on the same street in fact. You'll be in the center of everything you'll need. If you want to catch a show, Legends In Concert is very good. It's celebrity impersonators like Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Elvis, Blues Brothers etc. It's right by Broadway at the Beach. Enjoy!

thanks so much, DisneyDana! Do you happen to remember which grocery store it is? I could always call and ask if they have delivery, if not, I'll walk or cab it.

I really appreciate all the tips! My teenage son thinks he'll be at the beach during the heat of the day, but I heard it's too hot and he'll have to either go first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon...we'll have to see on that one. ( I'm one of those ones that even here in New England, I love the beach but go later in the day and cover up as I burn)

Thanks again!

I can't for the life of me remember which store it is. It's pretty far away from my house. I wan't to say it's a Piggly Wiggly. I hope it's still there and I haven't told you wrong. Either way you are very centrally located. I have never heard of any kind of grocery delivery services in our area, but then again, It's not something I would be on the lookout for so who knows. I know we have restaurant delivery services because I used to work for one way back when. If I were you I would stop at a store on your way from the airport and get it all done in one swoop.

A cab is aobut $20 one way per the Sheraton website. Depending on how many people yo ahve, that may be cheaper than any shuttle (the hotle does not ahve a shuttle). You're only 4 blocks from Broadway at the Beach:

Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach - Shopping, dining, nightlife, entertainment in one place!

The Piggly Wiggly is at the intersection of Kings Hwy and 17th Street, The sheraton is at 21st street, so it's not far.

Restaurant.com has a lot of MB restaurants on there. Might be somethign near you. Just plug the address in Google Maps and see how close it is to the Sheraton (2101 North Oak St).

Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park, both about a 30 minute drive south in Murrell's Inlet, are must-do's for us.

I have only ever been to Brookgreen once, and it's right down the street. I remember walking around and my ex husband wispering, "this is like Disney World for old effers." needless to say, I've never had the desire to go back. We were there for their "in bloom" thing they do in the spring, and I was thinking it would be like the flower and garden fest at Epcot....um no. All they seemed to have was azalias which can be seen in almost everyone's front yard here. We just didn't get it.

Lol, it's not for everyone I guess. We didn't go for the flowers, but to see the sculptures, as well as the little zoo. My little one loved that. The first time we went, we expected it to kill a couple hours, maybe a half day, and we ended up closing out the place. We've been twice now, and still haven't viewed everything. For us, it's been the "low-key" day in our MB vacations, just walking around, looking at art.

You lost me at art. LOL...nah, I don't think I gave it much of a chance because I never even found the little zoo. I do however love the Waccatee Zoo that we have here. It's little, but cute and personal. It has so many animals that you just wouldn't think a tiny little dirt path zoo would have.
