Group airfare

The daughter of a friend will be in Hawaii for three years. I've gone to Washington DC for a convention with her mother, and two other friends, since the early 1990s. We thought it would be fun if we all went to Hawaii at the same time, too.
If everyone is on board, we'd have 10 people flying, which seems to be the magic number for "group" bookings.
Has anyone done group airfare before?
Did you all live in the same area so that you flew from the same city?
We have no idea where to start with looking into this, but we are worried that getting us all to one jumping off point (from MN and Ohio) might wipe out any savings on the flight to Hawaii.

I don't have an answer for you.... But I had no idea they offer group flight discounts! We will be a group of 11-15 flying to Hawaii in a few summers, so I'll be interested in responses...
