Late Dec/early Jan Family Trip - Suggestions, Please!
Hello! My family and I live in the Orlando area and want to go on a vacation shortly after Christmas. We don't really want a stay-cation (I know! The audacity, right? ) but we are looking for something within 12 hours or fewer for driving. The idea is mostly that we'd like to go somewhere that's not as busy as a WDW vacation, but we're not looking for completely quiet, either. Any ideas? So far, we've floated Williamsburg, DC, and Myrtle Beach/Charleston. If you have other ideas, or experiences at this time of year with the above ideas, please share!
I was thinking Charleston and Savannah, but then again, my knowledge of places within 12 hours' drive of Orlando is limited. Maybe Key West or Miami and Vero Beach is always an option?
How about Pigeon Forge- Gatlinburg area. I doubt that it's further than Colonial Williamburg or D.C. I Love Williamsburg and D.C. too, but it'll be COLD. Pigeon Forge area might not be quite as bad. They've got plenty of shows, there's the Artist Loop, Cades Cove, Dixie Stampede, Dollywood, there's a ski resort of sorts (can't remember the name). You can rent a cabin, condo or there's plenty of motels on that main drag. We live in FlA. and were actually thinking about taking a few days to visit historic St. Augustine. Our DS has been wanting to go there after studying about Pedro Menendez.

Dollywood is closed in January, and especially coming from FL Pigeon Forge will be COLD.
