Universal Orlando crowds

I wonder if the crowd levels at the Universal parks are similar to the crowds at Disney at different times of the year. We're trying to pick a time to go back and use our annual passes, but there's very little info on Universal out there. I wonder if I went by a chart depicting Disney crowd levels if it would be the same for US?

Re: Universal Orlando crowds

I think Universal is probably ok this time of the year any day during the week, although we went the last week of August on a Sunday and it wasn't nearly as crowded as MK was the following day.

For some reason we always seem to go to Universal on a Sunday and it's never been that bad, in May or June either.

It's a great park - have fun!

Re: Universal Orlando crowds

We've always found the crowd levels to be pretty much the same. We've gone a few times in Nov/early Dec, and it was only during the end of the Millennium celebration that we found the crowds significently higher at WDW.

Re: Universal Orlando crowds

In October 2000, DW and I spent 1 day at Universal's Islands of Adventure and 1 day at MK. There were literally no lines at many of IoA's rides. In early afternoon, we could literally walk onto the Dueling Dragons coaster. All of the attractions really move a lot of people quickly. If you do have to wait in line, it will probably be inside and air-conditioned ... and IoA does a really good job of entertaining you while you wait, especially at the Doctor Doom and Spiderman attractions.

At MK the next day, there were the typical lines. At 2:00, it was over 45 minutes to ride Peter Pan or It's a Small World.

I haven't been to Universal's original park in Orlando since 1993, so I can't really comment on it anymore; but Islands of Adventure is really a fun day, particularly if you like fast rides.

We were there DEC 2000, and you could've shot a cannon through the place and not hit a soul. We never waited in line for a ride, and more often than not, we just stayed on the ride and rode again!

Re: Universal Orlando crowds

I've noticed ever since IOA opened, the crowds at Universal have thinned out. They're still working on attracting a larger segment of tourists, with the luxury of an added park. Right now crowd levels are great at Universal, but once they finally break into Disney's portion of vacationers, we'll probably see lines become long again like the old days when it was just the Studios. Enjoy while you can!
