Re: Monterey, CA

The drive along the coast is spectacular, with the mountains and ocean side-by-side, reminding us of vacations to Maine. We did the 17-Mile Drive, which takes you through the Pebble Beach golf course, a short distance from Monterey--there was a fee of around $8 for this. The Lone Cypress is a tree jutting out somewhat toward the ocean and is often photographed. We found the book Photo Secrets: San Francisco and Northern California to be very helpful both in terms of what to see and helpful hints on taking good photos--http://www.photosecrets.com/ssf.html. Just walking along the wharf area of Monterey also was very nice, with many restaurants to choose from.

Re: Monterey, CA

Enjoy.......Clam chowder in a bread bowl at the Wharf.
Watch the wild otters and seals, from there also.
You can also rent a bike, or four seater surry and take in the sites at your own pace.

Monterey hosts a big Maritime Museum.
And one of the first Theaters on the West Coast.

Have a wonderful time!

Re: Monterey, CA

What a beautiful part of the country. Of course there is the Aquarium. It's a must see. Also 17 mile drive is awe inspiring. The animals that are there, and the views of the ocean are amazing. Also on the far end of 17 mile drive is Carmel by the sea. There are a whole bunch of little specialty shops and resturants to spend your money in.

Have a great time.
