| Re: Having a \"Killer\" time at the beach ~ UPDATED AND COMPLETE! Okay, so here's a brief overview of what we did while at Surfside Beach, SC. We left Charlotte a little after 11am and arrived in Surfside a little after 3. We sat and sat and sat in traffic trying to turn onto Surfside Dr. off of Hwy. 17 for atleast 20 min. and my air had frozen over or something and no cold air was coming out anymore. NO air was coming at for that matter. So I was cooking in the car and ready to get in our comfy oceanfront room. There's nothing worse than being so close yet so far away b/c of traffic ![]() We finally made it onto Surfside Dr. and then my favorite moment of every beach trip. The "pull over the hill, see the ocean in the distance" moment. I that!! We pulled into the Days Inn and checked in. We were given our room keys and went ahead up to the room with our stuff. We checked into room 508 and we were given everything I had requested! Days Inn!! We had an upper floor room (which guarantees a balcony and all rooms are ocean view b/c the hotel is longways with all the balconies on the side of the building.) Were about 4 rooms from the end so we were really close to the beach and we were on Scotty's Beach Bar side (which I had also requested!!) I hung up some of our clothes and put things away while Andy got the rest of our stuff out of the car. We loaded up the fridge with water and diet rite and then hopped into our bathing suits. It was about 4 by now and The Killers concert that night was around 9 (doors were at 8). We went out on the beach and walked awhile, DH swam some (I'm not a fan of getting in the ocean, that's another story). We came back up to the room, showered, and went next door to this great bar/cafe, Latitude 22. They are as much on the beach as you can get and they raise their windows so you are right there. I love going there. I had a drink and we shared a crab stuffed scallop appetizer, and then we both ordered the crabcake sandwich with sweet potato fries After dinner we got in the car and made the drive to North Myrtle Beach (only 20 something miles, but with traffic it takes between 45 minutes to an hour). We found a parking space and went to get in line at the House of Blues. Now all along we'd been saying that we kinda wished we weren't going to the concert b/c it was taking away from our beach trip time. Well the line to get in was all the way around back of the HoB and it started to sprinkle. I suggested hitting the bar, so we did. Once there I joked to Andy that I'd rather sell the tickets and go shopping. Then this guy in front of us goes "How much you want for them?" So Andy just kinda stutters "I don't know, what do you wanna pay for them?" So he offers us $50 a ticket. I wasn't sure that Andy really wanted to sell them so I asked him if he was positive he wanted to do this and the guy ups his offer to $100 a ticket Now you must know that we only paid $25 a ticket!! So we jumped on it and sold them to him. He also apparently is co-owner of The Breakers Hotel in Myrtle Beach and they are building some condos. He gave us his card, told him to call him in a couple of weeks, and he'd set us up for 2 nights, oceanfront, with a gift certificate for dining for free. (As long as we go listen to the 90 min. spill about the condos, which is fine with us b/c we like to think that we could one day own one anyway). So we took our newly acquired $200 and went to Broadway at the Beach. I was a little hungry so we went to Senor Frogs (first time for us) and we had a peel and eat shrimp appetizer. I had a beer and DH had a margarita. That place was off the cuff!! We were drug into a conga line where you squired in the mouth with drink at the end We refrained from dancing on our chairs or the table like they wanted us to do. After that we shopped some and then headed back to our room. We sat outside and watched the ocean for awhile before we collapsed to bed.On Saturday we spent the morning on the beach. We rented 2 chairs and an umbrella ($20 bucks for the day, not bad). We ate lunch at the pier restaurant, Nibils. I had the fried shrimp and DH had the flounder. After lunch we walked out on the pier and watched the fisherman who were fishing in a tournament. One guy was from right down the road from where we live (I overheard his conversation). Nobody was catching anything so we headed back down to the beach. After all day on the beach we went to Scotty's Beach Bar and some margaritas and then went to the room to shower and get ready to go out for dinner. We drove to Murrell's Inlet (my future place of residence if I can come into some sort of money) for dinner. I have to eat here each trip. We went to our favorite, Drunken Jacks on the waterway. We only had a few minute wait before we were seated, in a window seat. We shared the conch fritter appetizer, and I had the flounder while DH had this crab casserole thing that was very (Have you figured out yet that my favorite food is seafood, and my favorite thing about the beach is eating?)After dinner we drove back to Barefoot Landing (where the HoB is) and shopped. We bought some Carolina made Blackberry Wine, and Andy bought me my first pair of Birkenstock sandals with our ticket money. He's such a sweetie We visited the T.I.G.E.R.S. preservation people and took some pictures. Two years ago we actually paid and had our picture made while holding one of the babies. It was crazy!! One of the Tigers smelled around on the hay and then sat up and his mouth was wide open, this is EXACTLY what Chewy does when he smells something stinky!! I had the biggest laugh over that After our Barefoot shopping we went back to the hotel and went to bed.Sunday we got up and packed. We checked out and walked out on the pier one last time. Then we drove up to Huntington Beach Park to look for shells, but there weren't any. So we just enjoyed our walk on the beach. After that we drove back down to Garden City and ate lunch at the Garden City Pier Cafe. I, of course, had the crabcake sandwich, DH had a footlong hotdog :P (I refuse to eat nothing but seafood at the beach). After lunch we decided it was time to head back home. We left there close to 1 and got back here in Charlotte around 5ish. We had the race on the radio to keep us company on the way home. It started when we left and it finished when we got home. So that was our weekend at the beach. I am ready to go back right now!! I have decided that I absolutely have to live somewhere near the beach at some point in my life!! | Re: Having a \"Killer\" time at the beach ~ UPDATED AND COMPLETE! Sounds like a fun trip . . . even if you didn't go to the concert!!! But you made $150 off of it, so I mean . . . who can fault you for THAT?! And you bought Birkenstocks which'll last you forever and then hung out with some tigers instead!!! ![]() That turtle kind of looked like Crush . . . ![]() ![]() ( ----- a little note about Birkenstocks . . . . if you treat them good, they WILL last forever!!! I've had one of my pairs since 1991 . . . have re-corked and re-soled ONCE since then!!! My other pair I have had since 1998 and they are still in near "perfect" condition!!! They just might be the best shoes ever! ) |
