| Our honeymoon in Africa - Updated 04th Jan This is very long overdue but I was looking at our honeymoon pics this evening and decided I would write a trip report. Our honeymoon in Africa Date: 28th May-14th June Adventurers: Mr and Mrs Allan Edwards , ie Me, Karen 31 and DH Allan 34 Resorts: 1 night Holiday Inn Nairobi, 7 nights safari, 1 night Holiday Inn Nairobi, 7 nights Breezes Beach Club Zanzibar. Celebration: Our honeymoon We were unsure of where to go for our honeymoon I did request WDW but Allan completely disagreed and said we should go somewhere we had never been before. After MANY discussions we narrowed it down to three choices: Thailand, a few days in Bangkok followed by a week in a Thai beach resort Kenya and Tanzania, a week on safari in Kenya followed by a week at a beach resort in Zanzibar Santorini, two weeks in a five star luxurious hotel. Allan decided he wanted to go somewhere more tropical than Santorini, I was quite keen because the flight was only three hours . In the end we both decided on the African holiday, we have always wanted to go on Safari and Zanzibar is a fairly new destination and we thought it would be nice to visit before it was too commercialised. We bought a couple of guidebooks, we were unsure of what clothing to bring for the Safari, the guidebooks suggested jumpers and cardigans for early morning and evening game drives, longish trousers or shorts, trainers and just generally comfy clothing as there would be a lot of driving during the day. The guidebooks also recommended wearing long sleeved tops and clothes that covered most of your body in the evening due to the amount of mosquitoes They also highly recommended DEET ( a strong mosquito repellent). We both had to have yellow fever and typhoid vaccinations, The yellow fever vaccinations are not available at most GP surgeries as it is a live vaccine that you need special facilities and training to handle,so we both had to visit a travel clinic. Allan went to a London one during his lunch hour and I visited a local one. It was a legal requirement for us to have a certificate to prove we had had the yellow fever inoculation before we entered Tanzania as we would be visiting Kenya first where the disease is more common. We also had to visit our GP for a prescription for Malaria tablets and we had to start taking them two days before the trip, strangely although had we caught Malaria we would have received free treatment through the NHS here in the UK, they will not pay For prevention, so we had to pay for the prescription – about £70 each! We had planned to pack before the wedding but completely ran out of time. Allan worked half of the the day before the wedding and I was running around like a headless chicken trying to get last minute things done as we were both staying in different hotels the night before the wedding. The Wedding day went really well,on the day after my Mum had organised a lunch for friends and family in a pub close to the castle. It was a lovely lunch but went on for ages, Allan and I were feeling slightly anxious as we knew we had to drive to the hotel which I had stayed the night before the wedding to pick up the presents, cake toppers etc. before driving an hour home, packing and then travelling to Heathrow to check into another hotel where we were due to stay the night before our flight. Cutting a long story short, by the time we had packed it was about 10pm, my Dad was supposed to be giving us a lift to the airport but we felt it was far to late for him to drive two hours there and then two hours back so we booked a cab. After dropping the car at my parents house and then getting the cab, follwed by getting stuck in traffic due to a major accident,we finally reached the Sheraton Skyline hotel after midnight and we were exhausted. Allan's sister had rang the hotel and had managed to wangle us a room upgrade and a free bottle of wine in our room she books a lot of Sheraton hotels for work and explained that it was her brothers honeymoon. :-) The hotel had also given us a Sheraton teddy bearing wearing a mini dressing gown, as a souvenir he is absolutely adorable. We had be so busy that we had not any dinner so we ordered room service. Allan had pasta and I had a chicken club sandwich. We finally got to sleep about 2.00am. Next: A visit to the lounge and our flight to Nairobi |

| Re: Our honeymoon in Africa Karen, you just read my mind - seriously I was only thinking a couple of hours ago that I'd never seen a trip report about your honeymoon and I was thinking what a shame it was, as I really wanted to hear all about it. How great that you're now doing one! It sounds like an exhausting start to your honeymoon - I hope things get better from here on in and I can't wait to read more!
