| Those sandwiches are HUGE! It's the Sandwich That Ate NY! I would so enjoy this trip, except for the sleeping outdoors on an air mattress with the humidity/rain and the sun waking me up at the crack of dawn part. Is there a Fairfield Inn nearby? Funny that you mention that you need electricity for a coffee pot but no mention is made of a blender. My dad's cousin NEVER leaves home w/o her Blender and Bacardi mix! Okay, I'm ready for the next installment. More please!

| Day 5, Saturday, August 11 Everyone was up bright and early, and breakfast was French toast, sausage patties, Sunny D – again, and coffee. Since everyone was here, we had a much bigger group for breakfast. The plan for the day was to clean up after breakfast, pack up chairs and towels and head up to Caseville to see the southern part of town, see the Pet Fashion Show and eat “fair” food, you know, Elephant Ears, Funnel Cakes, Alligator Bites, Cotton Candy, Fries, and of course a Cheeseburger or two. Then we’d set up camp on the beach for some floating. I picked up a few rafts at the Dollar General Store. My DBIL’s family was heading south to their grandma’s 100th birthday party in Pidgeon, MI and would meet us at the beach later. ![]() We ate, we shopped, and saw some cute dogs in Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts. Grace got a shirt for Weenie. We listened to some steel drum bands. The weather was really warm, for Michigan, and it seemed as if everyone was in the water. We parked ourselves on the beach, inflated the rafts, and the girls and I went out for a big float session. Pretty soon we saw Mary Jean and Dennis heading to a burger joint on the beach. Pirate Corn, a Bucaneer, get it?????? Seems it was a cake and ice cream party only, and they posed for the group family shot and then moseyed up the road for a burger and fries. And corn. Pat said the corn was good, it was grilled, and there was a butter dippin bucket. He really wanted to double dip, but didn’t. He likes butter. We went back to the campsite around 6:00 pm. Pat loaded up with firewood, and around 8:00 we started the campfire. We had a little happy hour/evening under the shade tree and then moved to the campfire once the sun set. Dinner tonight was leftovers, hot dogs and cheese and crackers. And Cheese Curls. I love Cheese Curls. It’s a party and vacay food only. I won’t buy it during the year, only on vacay and a birthday celebration. We discussed the various ways to eat a Cheese Curl. Amazing what we talk about around the campfire. We hit the aerobeds the force again, and I had the fan on full force that night. Day 6, Sunday, August 12 The plan was to get up, have a nice breakfast, and then break down the campsite. What really happened was that we woke up to rain. And the tent was leaking. We’ve never a leak before, but then again, it never rained that hard. ![]() We pretty much just undid everything, and quickly stuffed it into the van, the truck and the SUV. We decided to have breakfast at a little German restaurant in Frankenmuth, MI. Service was slow, and I forgot to bring in my camera. I had an Irish Omlet, filled with corned beef. Deelish! And about 4 cups of coffee. We made it back in record time to my sister’s, and it was nice, sunshine-y, and warm. We unloaded all the tents put them on the lawn to dry. I took about ten loads of laundry to the basement and started the first load. Then we took naps. For dinner we had filet mignon that we got at Gordon Foods, and something called Corn Bake, and Onion Rings. Although the corn and onions might be considered vegetables, any nutritional value was negated by the sugar and fat in the corn bake, and the breading on the onion rings. But it was all to die for. I so wish we had a Gordon Foods in Maryland! Last edited by JoanW; 08-23-2007 at 04:20 PM. |

| Joan, I want to join your family on a road trip. You all really know where to find the best looking food. I am now sitting at my computer drooling all over the keyboard. I can't wait to see more food and hear more about your trip.
