| Last Minute Day Trip turns out to be a wonderful day... My daughter turns 15 on Wednesday and my parents decided as part of her gift they would take her to a Boradway show and for dinner...(my parents do shows a lot so the kids definitely have beneifted over the years My father went and got tickets for them to see Xanadu...(based on the 80's and Oliva Newton John's music from the movie that she did with the same name) Anyway my father called this morning to say my mom was not feeling well...she got hit with some kind of stomach virus that has been going around her job...he wanted to know if my little one or I would like to join them. Since the little one was at a party today and I did not have any real craving to see the show I declined and he said that was fine he would just enjoy the afternoon with his grandaughter... Mother intution I could just tell my daughter was a bit dissappointed...so after she walked out the door I called my dad and told him don't get on the train I am coming... (I really did not want to do my law paper anyway...lol) Well I have to admit as much as the movie was a bomb the show was great...they run it with no intermission so it is 1 1/2 hours of straight sininging and funny jokes on the 80's... The lead actor and actress were great and it ended up being a wonderful show and afternoon and when I got to the train my daughter smiled and said..."love you much"...I am glad that I got to make her smile by joining them and as much as I was not exctied about this show it really was a great upbeat production... We finished the day off by going to this southwest restuarant (Zuni) - not your typical texmex food at all but a nice qaint resttaurant that really incorporates the southestern spices in their food... The meal was amazing...first they bring out some breads and corn muffins from blue corn that were great... My daughter is a sald person so she had this cobb salad but what a salad...plate was huge with chicken, bacon and corn...goat cheese and veggies...not the standard cobb salad but what a meal... My dad ordered this pork tenderloin with this sauce made from avacados with steamed rice with black beans and broccoli on the side...I took a bite and enjoyed it except that I am not a huge avacado fan so I found the sauce a little to heavy... I had this chicken breast in a corn meal breading served with this red wine and thyme glaze. The chicken was on a bed of colalrd greens cooked to perfection with chuncks of sweet potatoes... It was delicious...finished the plate and was so full...we even ended up passing on dessert, while everything looked really good I was done... All in all a rainy Saturday ended up being a great fun day that was so unplanned (at least for me). In the end I was really glad I decided to go...it was much better then mopping the kitchen floor or trying to do my paper...lol |
